Black Moor Ripped Fin?!

AAAAA!
So I went and looked at my goldfish tank today while resting. (Just moved my turtle tank, and let me tell you that is a JOB.) And I noticed my little black moor has ripped his fins!
None of my goldfish have been fighting, and I wouldn't think he got hurt in the filter or decorations. (They've been in there for months with not a single injury!) I'll post pictures along with this, I'm puzzled and unsure of what to do!

These are the pictures, sorry that they're blue and a little blurry.

It's always possible that he might've just run into something. Black moors tend to be very clumsy. I wouldn't worry too much unless the edges of the tear turns white or the tears get worse. Just monitor him carefully to see if he's healing, and if he isn't, then you should be worried. But don't stress out quite yet, they're probably just minor injuries that will get better!

Just to make sure it's not something serious, what are your water parameters?

I'll keep an eye on him and make sure he gets better. I'm probably being paranoid because of the goldfish I saw yesterday. (Poor little guy had no tail at all!). Do you happen to know how long it would take for it to heal?

For that I need to know your water parameters . Sorry I just edited my previous post a second before you responded.

That's ok.
Sadly, I haven't gotten a test kit yet to measure parameters. When I first got these fish, it never crossed my mind as an 'essential'. (I don't even think my LFS sells them.) I'll see if I can find one and price it tomorrow to test my water.

If the tank has been running for several months now with no problems, I'd assume the tank is cycled. But even so, you should buy the test kit. They're always handy to have around.

Assuming your water parameters are pristine, and the tears don't get infected, it will heal pretty quickly just like a minor cut or scrape on your skin would. However, you need to watch the tears very closely because white on the tear would mean he's developed fin rot. Fin rot is awful and can be hard to get rid of, so let's hope he never develops it!

The tank is cycled, it's been running since at least June or July.

I'll keep an eye on him. I didn't see any white on his tail or fin, so I don't think it's reached that point. I hope it never gets that bad.

Yes just keep an eye on him. If he's acting weird or clamping his fins or developing anything unusual along the tears, be sure to make a thread so we can help! But assuming all is well, he should heal pretty quickly.
