Black Moor Goldfish POPEYE treatment/remedy?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had any remedies or treatment for my 2 year old Black Moor goldfish who has Popeye on 1 eye. I have read it is a symptom of an underlying problem - but I cannot figure out what it is. He is eating and swimming actively as normal, his fins and scales are okay, shows no physical signs of dropsy, and his water parameters are checked every other day along with water changes.

He is with a pleco in a 40 gallon tank.

I already have tried Melafix, Kanaplex, and Sulfplex with no luck! Please help!

The underlying problem may be a bacterial infection of some kind even if the fish appears normal. How long have you had the pleco? I don't think it's a parasite if you have had them both for 2 years and they have normal poo and no symptoms. I would treat with an antibiotic if possible.

Thank you for the response! The pleco we got a few months after the goldfish, maybe a year and a half ago now.

About the bacterial infection - I figured it might be something like that. Do you have any recommendations for antibiotics?

Canada is pretty limited with what we sell on shelves and the only thing the LFS will sell is Melafix

You can use epsom salt to reduce swelling

Thank you for the response! Would it be okay to treat the main tank? I don't have access to a quarantine tank at the moment

You can use a small bucket for baths. I do think you can treat the whole tank though.

I heard that salt isn't good for plecos - does this still stand for epsom/aquarium salt?

You can do epsom salt dips on the goldfish itself

Thank you for consistently replying! I was finally able to get my hands on epsom salt as its been sold out at stores around me and online shipping has been unreliable with shipping times - i've been doing thorough upkeep of my water while waiting.

I've read mixed directions on salt dosage for the dips - is it 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons? or 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon?

I am not very educated in dosage but I think it is 1 tbsp per 1 gallon for baths and 1 tbsp per 10g if its going into a tank

After 3 days of epsom salt baths I'm happy to say the fluid swelling has gone down quite a bit! However the eye is still cloudy - I don't have any access to meds with the whole fish antibiotic ban in Canada and no vets near me will treat fish

Bumping this up in hope for other remedies!!
