Black convict cichlid in a 29 gallon tank?

I was wondering if I can put a black convict cichlid in a 29 gallon tank. I have heard females stay a little smaller than the males. Is this true? And if so, can I put a female in a 29 gallon? I also wanted to ask what are some good tank mates?
Thanks!

Convicts with tank mates in a 29g is probably not a good idea. They earn that name for a reason. You could probably do a breeding pair in that but I'd be worried about not having enough space for something that could hold its own with them.

So a male and female alone would be fine?
