Black and White slime on Driftwood

FishguyAU

Hello All,
I'm currently 5 weeks into a fishless cycle of my 23gal freshwater tank. I have a piece of Spiderwood (Gold vine). The driftwood was bought from a shop. I also have a couple of java ferns, an Anubia and some java moss attached. For a while I have noticed a lot of white fungus growing on it which I have read is normal and will clear up on its own. However, recently I have noticed a lot of black slime building up everywhere. I took the wood out to rinse it today and the slime smelled bad. My question is, what do you think this black slime could be? Will it be continue to come back forever? I'm considering disposing of the driftwood because of this but I don't really want to as I like the look of it, it was pretty expensive, and all my plants are attached to it. Any advice would be very appreciated!

Probably nothing to worry about. The white & black fungus / mold is likely a temporary problem. Remove it manually rinsing in used tank water. The problem will eventually go away.

Thanks A201!
