KingD. Those two are just beautiful! Hmm, will they be ok together do you think?

Mcasella. They do? Do you have any pictures of that?
They might be okay since it’s a 4th tank but if they are definitely both males, I’ll be separating them. I want to get more in hopes for a breeding pair but that’s on hold now

This is what I get for picking the biggest prettiest ones for everyone. You all end up with boys. Even myself! All of my keepers are getting bristles. haha. I can't help but to choose the nicest looking ones, but unfortunately the nicest looking ones appear to almost always be male!!

Its too bad I can't sex them as young as Mcasella can!!

Lol no worries! Both of my “males” are handsome little dudes (if they are males) and I’m okay with that. The fish store in NJ I go to had some yellow blue eyes a couple month back, I might just call them one of these days and find out if they have any more. Hopefully they do, I really want to breed these guys

Well Bit might end up male or female from the size, the smaller of the two standard fins (I think my blue eyed male murdered the long fins, which is just ??? for me, blue eyed male has been moved with bigger plecos) is one from you and might go either way.

Updated pics of Steph and one of the longfin beauties. I really hope one of the longfins is a female.

UGGGG I AM SO SORRY GUYS!!!! I am good at picking boys apparently!!!

Again...for what its worth...this means I sent you guys the best looking and biggest ones I had at the time. Because the best looking ones seem to always be boys.

Note to self....keep the smaller less spectacular looking juvies if you want a female! That's just so hard to do because I view smaller and less spectacular as less healthy

No need to apologize Biz. These guys are beautiful no matter what sex they are

Yes, I agree! They are stunners. I am happy to have them regardless.

AND I was examining them again tonight. I may have gotten them mixed up since they are so close in size now.

Here is the other one:

I don’t see any bristles or a red splotch on this one. I am bad at judging by body shape though.

It’s like she was posing for me, lol.

And I think it confirms your theory if she is a she. It is the smallest one. Fingers crossed!!!!

Proven males (or just males that look like males) go for a pretty penny, so you could always sell one and get some juveniles to get a female?

That would be perfect, yes! When I thought I was looking at the smallest one the other day, my heart sank a little. Then last night they were all three out for feeding and I was like wait just a minute, lol. Those two are so similar now that she? has finally had a growth spurt.

Steph is my standout guy, lol. I just love his coloring, much like Stuckey’s.

Oh cool! . Hehe. The little one is being sneaky pleco!
And Steph is the standard finned, correct?

Correct. Steph is a play on the words standard fin. I figured at the time that he could be a Stephen or a Stephanie, lol. He is most definitely a Stephen, Steph for short.

I was trying to get some good pics of the ones I kept from the same batch as yours tfreemaand KingD

I snapped this pic.

Then he got mad and flared at me as he swam away! Haha isn't this a crazy picture!!

Here's one of the 2 standards I kept. Both males. Both a nice bright yellow. I wish my long fins were as yellow as my standards. I still wonder why that is.

I'm partial to the paler (is that a word?) color haha. I've often looked for the more pale color in my local stores and never found any. Maybe that's why I couldn't, they were all standard fins

tfreema. Ohh ok. I thought it was just for Stephen/Stephanie.

bizaliz3. I love that flaring pic! . Showing just how big and tough he is! HA! Maybe the long fins stay paler cuz more energy is put into the finnage? Same with having the slimmer body?

I have a dilemma for the auction next Saturday.

So....I have a couple very nice standard lemon males. I plan to keep one and sell one. I also have a standard finned BROWN female sibling of the two lemon males.

I know it seems odd that I am thinking about selling a female when I have a female shortage. But a standard brown female is not what I am looking for AND it would make the male more valuable with a female tagging along!!

I was all geared up to say "guaranteed to produce 50% yellow blue eyed babies!!!" And people would love that!! And surely bid higher because of it.

But then late last night I was laying in bed and had a discovery....I am PRETTY SURE that this brown female is one of the offspring of my two long finned browns who both have a yellow gene. So...here's the problem....75% of their brown children will have a recessive yellow, yes, BUT 25% will NOT!!! Meaning, it is a crapshoot if this brown female has a yellow gene or not!! So I am so bummed!!!

I can't make that guarantee, and I am grateful that I realized it isn't a 100% guarantee before I sold them with that promise! But I want to find a way to let the buyers know that there is a very good chance the female has the yellow gene. But I can't get too wordy in my description.

So...the only thing I can think of is to just say " they are siblings, so they could potentially produce lemon babies"

Or just not say anything at all I suppose. I am just bummed cuz I was excited to make that guarantee to the bidders.

I am assuming the brown gene is dominant then? So if she doesn’t have a yellow gene, they will all be brown?

If that’s the case, your yellow male has two yellow genes, right?

Maybe just simply state, 75% probability of carrying gene for yellow L144.

Yes. Brown is dominant. And when Blue Eyes had babies with the brown female, I knew with 100% certainty that every brown baby had a single lemon gene. Because they each got one lemon gene from him.

When my brown pair from Blue Eye's brown kids had their own kids...we got 25% yellow babies (2 yellow genes) 50% brown babies (1 yellow gene) and 25% brown babies with ZERO lemon gene. So the odds are in her favor that she has a lemon gene. But I can't promise that.

Just a side note...I do not like using "L144" because everything I have read says they do not exist in the hobby and all the ones we have circulating now are considered "False L144s" This is why I intentionally did NOT call my yellow plecos L144s when I sold some at my last auction. But of course the auctioneer chose to call them L144s anyway!!

Offer them as a sibling pair? That way they can infer that she might have a yellow gene to pass on.

That's kind of the direction I was leaning.

The pair are siblings so there is a solid chance for lemon fry!!

My beautiful Graham died yesterday. I'm so bummed. We are finishing up our re-do on the 125g and were going to move her in there with Pledge tomorrow. We were hoping for babies from them. Graham was my absolute favorite fish! I'm so heartbroken

bizaliz3, I like the wording that you and Mcasella came up with for the sale of your plecos. Not that my opinion counts for much, since I know nothing about selling fish lol.

Unfortunately, no. She likes to disappear for a day or two (her tank has a lot of hiding spots). I hadn't seen her for a few days and when I turned the lights on yesterday morning, there she was, just lying on her back at the front of the tank.

I am so sorry ErinO :-( My heart broke when I saw this.

Since plecos like to hide, its easy to not be concerned when you don't see them for a few days. :-(

I am so sorry :-( BIG HUGS!!!

Thanks biz. I was so close to (hopefully) getting my babies! Now, I'm going to have to make a road trip North so I can get another from you lol.
Now I'm watching Pledge like a hawk, though. I give him the "Don't Die" pep talk every day. He looks fantastic, so I don't expect him to have any problems. But then again, the last time I saw Graham, she looked great too. You just never know what might happen
