For the first couple weeks I do water changes daily. I use the python (believe it or not) to remove water from the surface. With a 10 gallon tank, if I stay at the surface and watch closely, I can easily avoid the fry. When I fill it back up though, I use treated water from a bucket rather than straight tap to tank with the python (like I do in my other tanks). After those first couple weeks I usually switch to every other day. Once they are upgraded to a larger grow out tank, the water changes are every 2-3 days. Daily would probably be better though!!! Sometimes I do daily. It just depends on my schedule.

Do you do 50 per cent water changes?

No. I usually do 30%....or 40% max. Problem is, I have 1.0ppm ammonia in my tapwater. So I can't change out too much or the BB in the filter can't keep up with the added ammonia.

But I have heard of breeders doing like 90%-100% water changes daily!

Fresh off the press!!!!

I'm so glad I have these adorable little buggers right now. It takes away a bit of the sting of both pairs in the 75 eating their eggs YET AGAIN. uggg. Yep, they did. Boooo Bella and the pinoy lasted one day longer than the blue pair. But still not letting them hatch.

The upside is, this weekend I can go ahead and move them into their own spawning tanks and UNdivide the 75 gallon.

This pearlscale pair is just such a fun surprise. These babies are all mysteries!! Its so fun to watch them develop!! Screw the blue pairs!! LOL totally kidding.

Time for the Sunday update... We all are living vicariously through you...

Ok!!! Thanks! let's see....
Well I wasn't able to move the pairs from the 75 and undivide that tank yet like I had hoped.....
I had a little hiccup with big daddy koi that required him to be put by himself in one of the tanks that was going to be a temporary spawning tank. He has just gotten so nasty even to non angelfish!

But I don't want to get into that here. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him at this point :-(

Lchi87 and KingD are both getting a handful of my smallest koi babies to grow them out and decide what they want to do with them long term. I need to get all of the koi babies out of the house to make space, and only about half of them are big enough for the fish store. The rest are still quite a ways away. I'm not sure why they aren't growing as much. The care has been the same. So for fun, those two are going to take some of the smallest ones off my hands the angels will be going out in the mail tomorrow! This is only my second attempt shipping fish and I'll be sending out two packages. I'm nervous!!

Anyway, I'd really like to move my pearlscale babies into a larger grow out tank. I'm thinking about doing that this evening!!! They are 2.5 weeks old. So I'm nervous and excited about that too!! They are growing so fast even in the 10 gallon and 29 gallon!!

Oh and last but not least, I think I'm sitting with two breeding pairs in my 55 now as well! Lol neither pair has spawned yet but they're both behaving like they're preparing to in the near future.

Those two pairs are;
mommy koi and Nial Jr (my first baby ever)
and
Phillipine blue pearlscale and platinum pearlscale!!!

So there is a little update for now I hope to get some new pictures of the pearlscale babies tonight for you guys! They're developing so quickly!!

I know a lot of breeders will go with the bare bottom tanks but I like your plants and stuff. What sort of plants and substrate do yo have?

Sometimes when I first put the BBS in there....mom or dad will swim through the cloud of bbs with their mouths open. Lol...but ya, overall the adults are indifferent to the bbs.

Last vid is of parents still being defensive?

Also do the kids swim towards the glass when you get close like adults who want food?

Ya the parents are still being pretty protective. Lol

And yes!!!! The babies are at the point where they are zooming up to the glass when they see me!!! I love it

Thanks. The red themed 29 gallon with the parents is all fake stuff. The 10 gallon is black diamond blasting sand and a few random plants from my other tanks. Some anubias and Bacopa caroliniana.

I did recently set up a couple bare bottom tanks for growing out angels. They are definitely easier to keep clean. But I still have plants in those tanks. Potted plants and Java fern, anubias.....things that don't need substrate

The tank I plan to grow these pearlscales out in is a fully planted tank with substrate though!!!!

I got all of the pearlscale babies from the 10 gallon and put them in a 46 bow. I put them in a bucket to acclimate and took a photo in order to count. There were over 50 babies in that tank!! Wow! Well they aren't even three weeks old yet but they were ready to stretch their fins!

Here they are in the bucket. I'll get a video of them in their new tank tomorrow

451e6f223dac22be187787f8383a975e.jpg

Mom and dad still have a large number of babies with them as well!!! Yikes!!

Well all of the pearlscale babies in the 46 are doing excellent this morning they seem to enjoy their new home and had a nice big breakfast

I was a little surprised this morning, because even though I swear I got every last baby out of that 10 gallon, apparently there was one that managed to avoid being seen!

What was precious about it is even though the 10 gallons light was off I noticed something moving by the glass this morning seemingly trying to get my attention LOL the little baby was shimmying at the glass excitedly looking at me and trying to get me to see him! Haha you had to see it!!

Morning breakfast in the big tank!!

Last night was a big night....I finally undivided the 75. Both of the breeding pairs from that tank now have their own spawning tanks. The 75 now has 10 small Juvenile angels, 14 rummy nose tetras, 8 rasboras, 7 orange laser cories, 2 baby long fin yellow bns and one long fin adult bn.

It's a much different environment in that tank now! And I really like it it's much more active!! I plan to get a bunch more rummy noses!!

Bella and the pinoy have the 40 breeder all to themselves. And the blue pair has the 46 gallon in the dining room all to themselves!!! By giving them such nice-sized spawning tanks I'm hoping to be able to let their children spend some time growing out right in there with them. If I ever get any from them! Lol

I was able to finally pull off this shuffle by bringing 13 koi babies to the local fish store, and shipping 15 of them in the mail. Sadly I know at least five of the shipped ones did not make it. Sorry KingD !! I'm Still waiting too see if Lchi87 has any survivors in her package. It's been a heartbreaking day, so I'm trying to focus on something else right now!!!

Lastly... I have a 10 gallon ready to go for the newest babies from the koi and Niall jr.!! Grandbabies!! Luckily I have not had to divide the 55-gallon. The other two angels in that tank are not being harassed too much by the spawning pair.

I'm glad you're liking the 75 more now It is nice to see an active tank full of fish, that's the look I'm going for in my 75 gallon

I hope the pairs all work out for you and you get lots of babies Maybe I can get some babies from the blue pair when they spawn!

Glad most of the koi babies found a home at the LFS. Don't apologize! LOL It's not your fault. I hope Lchi87 has some survivors too.

I adore my new 75 gallon Community! Those two breeding pairs ruled the tank. Now that I've removed them...it's a real community.....

For another couple months anyway...and then at least half the angels will have to go!! Boooo!

Enjoy the video! It starts with one of my long fin yellow baby plecos who I hadn't seen for like a month....now that the 4 big breeding Angels are gone....he's out all the time!!!

3 days. It proved to be too much for the majority of tiny angels. But the great news is.... Lchi87 had 2 survivors (of 9) who are still alive today!!! Sad at the small number of survivors....but better than nothing!!

3 days is a long time. I ordered some fish from Trin's fish. 3 sterbaI corys and 10 loaches. Everyone came in alive but the cory's were definitely quite thin.

Next shipment i'm going to pay a lil extra to avoid the stress on the fish. Are you shipping out any of the plecos?

Yes. Lchi87 got a long fin yellow and a long fin brown. And KingD got a long fin yellow in the package that his angels died in..... but for some reason the standard yellow also died :-( but at least he got the much-desired long fin yellow

Edit I plan to wait a few more weeks before shipping any more fish so that the weather it is nicer. And possibly faster shipping times if the buyer wants to pay for it!!

Lchi87 don't forget to share pics and videos of your 2 itty bitty babies when you get some good ones!!

Thanks!!! The substrate is black diamond sand blasting sand.

The filters are both marineland bio wheels. A 300 and a 200.

Plants I have in there are:
Ozelot sword
Amazon swords
Staurogyne repens
Several different crypt species
Several different anubias species
Dwarf sag
Ludwiga repens
Hygrophila corymbosa compact

I use seachem root tabs and the occasional dose of seachem flourish.

2 foot bubble wall and a minimum weekly water change of 30-40%

Mom and dad moved the wigglers from the leaf to the filter intake I love the bluish hues that Niall jr. Has!

Last night I chose to move the wigglers into a 10 gallon. Mommy koi was getting a little too harsh with the other two angels so I figured I'd remove the babies to settle her down. Niall jr. Seemed very sad. And he attacked the turkey baster pretty hard. I think he really wants the chance to be a dad. And after watching the gold pearlscale dad and the koi dad get the chance to be Father's for a few weeks, I really want to see him get that chance!! So I think this pair is going to get their own spawning tank....somehow! Lol

In other news, I haven't really been paying much attention to the pearlscale parents. When I go to their tank I only look at their babies LOL well it's been four weeks since they laid their last eggs and half of those babies are still with them. Well they decided they waited long enough and they are spawning! I hadn't looked at their breeding tubes lately so I didn't realize this was coming. What's crazy about it is, they're spawning in a location I've never had Angel spawn in the entire time I've been breeding them....the glass!!! Lol I've read about it happening to other people, I've just never had it happen myself.

Here's a great video, their current babies are fascinated by this!! Haha I hope they don't get nasty to their current babies, but they might once they're done spawning.

I don't either! Lol
Imagine if the two pairs in my 75 had succeeded with their last spawns!! I'd have babies from 4 different pairs at once! Lol

Right now I have like 80+ pearlscale babies that have been swimming for 3.5 weeks. And now these grandbabies I just stole from Niall and the koi....they won't be swimming for another several days.

I'm almost tempted to remove the new pearlscale eggs that were just laid on the glass....I have enough of their babies at the moment. Lol I've never intentionally destroyed a spawn before :-( I don't like the idea.... but it might be necessary.
