Biotrope For Species Buenos Aires Tetra

So I have been thinking about whether I’d add other species to my 29 gallon tank home to 8 Buenos Aires Tetra or keep it as a species only tank. If I decided on a species only tank and I wanted to create a biotrope for them what would it entail?

 

I would consider the typical amazon biotope, wood, rocks and leaf litter... tannin stained. Little to no plants used, and a fine sand and/or gravel substrate...

 

The Amazon doesn't run through southern Argentina where this fish comes from. The biotopes of Southern Argentina are not at all what most think of as typical "Tetra" habitats. Very few plants, and clear or white water, and generally quite hard and alkaline, sometimes even brackish. Actually rather ugly areas, which is why the fish are so rugged and adaptable.

 

So I looked at s of Amazon biotropes and they really are not something I want to look at each day in my living room. So I will continue my search for what I want for my tank and the BAT that currently occupy it. Thanks for your input.

No, they don't range very far north. There are similar looking Tetras that come from Mexico and Central America.

Edit: they may range along the coast into extreme southern Brazil, but that is still a long way from the Amazon basin.
