My Marineland C-360 came with both forms of media, but I wanted to replace one of them with Seachem Matrix for nitrate reduction. I was thinking of removing the bioballs since they tend to get in the way during filter maintanence. Are the ceramic rings equally effective as the bioballs for biological filtration?

I would certainly get rid of the bioballs. The ceramics are more effective since they have such a significantly higher amount of surface area per volume.

I figured that was the case and they are nuisance when putting the trays back in the canister since the bioballs float. Thanks for the feedback.
