Starting a new 10 gal neo tank. This is my first time with a shrimp specific tank.
Have had filter running in community tank for about a month as well as gravel substrate in mesh bag

Want to set up tank - how many zebra danios do you think would sustain my bb until 15 shrimp arrived? 3? 4?

    Thank you

I'd leave the filter you're going to use in the main tank until the shrimp arrive rather than getting any danios as they need a lot more space than a 10 gallon has.
You could put the gravel & any plants into the 10 gallon & run an airstone until you get the shrimp then just put the filter in

They need ammonia source though. Just trying to keep bb up til shrimp arrive

Unfortunately, that's pointless. Nitrifying Bacteria live, reproduce, and thrive inside the porous bio-media from the filter.... not on gravel substrate. This is specifically why bio-media is porous and made from either pumice, lava rock, or specialized sponge.
