I am planning to rebuild my 30 gallon tank (30x15x15 inches). Kindly guys, tell me some bigger fish to put into. It doesn't have to be a lot of fish or a school, I am very fine with 2-6 fishes. But I want to keep something bigger, of 3-4 inches size. Kindly help.

If I keep only cichlids, then which will be appropriate and how many?

You could get a pair of bolivian rams or apistogramma. Some of the apistogramma are really beautiful, but bolivians are my favourite of the dwarf cichlids. In a 30 gallon there isn't enough territory space for multiple pairs, but one is still fantastic to see.

Maybe a pair of rams/apistos, a bristlenose pleco and a pearl gourami if you only want to have a few fish. I believe keyhole cichlids can be kept in a 30 gallon too. They are a little more drab, but they are bigger than bolivians.

How about you keep a pair of convict cichlids with one firemouth cichlid?
If cichlid aren't your orefprefer you can go rainbowfish. They are great looking fishes and there are plenty of varieties to choose from.

wouldnt a convict would be too big for a 30 gallon seeing as they get to over 6 inches, same with a firemouth. something the size of a pearl gourami is perfect for a 30 gallon anything bigger is pushing it a bit.

Only the male ones of the convict cichlid grows up to 6 inch. Females are much smaller like 4 inch. Same with firemouth cichlid. If you get the female one it's about 4 inch.
So there will be only one 6 inch fish in the tank, the rest are of 4 inch. ( None of the fishes grow over 6 inch like you said, the males grow to a maximum length of 6 inches)
I don't see any problem here. I think these three can easily ke keep in a 30 gallon tank.
Google it- the tank size requirement for a pair of convict cichlid and a firemouth is 30g.
I think 30 gallon is enough for these 3 fishes.
