Big leaf Amazon Sword needs help

Good morning people,

I have big leaf Amazon sword, couple of them for about a month now and they are deficient it seems in everything.

i have flourish root tabs and I use column fertilizer but the leaves are see through, older leaves are going yellow, brown tipped ends and loss of plant matter and just the veins left. I don’t want to super dose my tank since I have hair algae but it seems like my plants are not getting enough nutrients.
Any ideas?

Hi Nickel5

What I see in your photos is marginal chlorosis becoming necrosis. If you can provide a little more information and answer a question I may be able to help.

Do you tank any tank water parameter readings? pH, dKH, dGH, nitrates (ppm)

Do the new leaves emerge looking like this or does the condition progress as the leaves age?

Yes, I know that soil is best but also is expensive and many people have had success with sand and root tabs. I can not do soil right now :(

Hi Roy,

The new leaves do not look like this just as they age.
My pH is 7.5, dKH 6, dGH 10, and nitrates 20 ppm

I have fluval 3.0 light on plant setting but change for only 9 hours since I was having algae problem. I use the thrive lowtech column fertilizer which I dose one to two times a week and flourish root tabs.
