Big chip in the corner of a tank.

Hey everyone, I just got a tank from my local tip shop, from the quick look I had at it I couldn't see anything wrong. But I later discovered it has a big chip in the corner, but sure if it's fixable or not, if anyone knows what to do to fix it would help heaps. If not I'll just chuck it out, would be a great tank to have but was only like $5 anyway.will send photos.

Hey again, the tank is only 70 litres filled to the brim, so only like 60 really. So like 15 gallons???

I could separate and replace the glass, only thing is, where I live to get glass cut would cost the same as a brand new tank.

You could try patching it will something but I'm not sure it will work long term

Yeah I could, have an endless supply of silicone that I could use, or something like super glue, or hot glue. Not sure what would work better though.

You could buy a piece of glass and cut it yourself.

With what? What would I use to do that?

You may have to rent a glass cutting tool for a few hrs or use a hand held glass cutter but that can be tricky for a first timer

Chuck it...... it isnt worth renting equipment or buying glass. ;) I wouldnt trust a chip that big on the bottom.

IMO I wouldn't trust it i wouldn't feel comfortable that over time it may cause a leak you don't know if it will, I mean you can still keep it if you want and use it as a terrarium but to use it as aquarium i wouldn't chance it.

If your not comfortable cutting glass, then don't bother. It's easy and cheap, no need to rent anything, but don't do it if you're not sure of what your doing.

I would use this tank for outside purposes. Cultivate some live food. Propagate plants. Depends on where you live of course.

But I would not use this tank inside the house. I cut costs on everything, except the tank.

Ok, so I won't bother on doing any glass things, have zero idea on what I'm doing. But will try siliconing the chip and using it outside. I live in Australia in one of the hottest states, so I could probably get away with keeping some tropical fish outside, or propagate plants. What else could I do with an outside tank and what fish would be best?

Also has anyone else in Australia tried keeping some tropical fish outside?
