Bettas Tail Rotting, But Not Rotting

So we got Drake a month ago, and everything was fine, I started with an arguably overstocked unsafe tank, with an issue we fixed, but when we lost one of his companion fish we searched for more, still haven't found a match, planning on just adding more shrimp and snails instead.

When we got him, his fins were very rounded, and slightly clear on the ends like some bettas, he is a dragon scale halfmoon, but his tail is a bit small on one side, doesn't matter.

I think perhaps after a few weeks or so his tail started getting a bit more weathered, the only thing 'sharp' in the tank could be gravel.
The other fish does not nip at him at all, we know this for a fact.

Sometimes he sleeps with his head shoved against a rock and the gravel, or the gravel, the wall and a Moss ball, but his tail is usually away from the gravel, he's never been sucked against the filter as this type doesn't suck hard enough to sick our fish.

I'm pretty sure this isn't fin rot as it isn't very progressive, and has only been around a short time, and his tail isn't actually rotting, just some places getting weathered and a bit black.

Tank mate is a platy with no fin issues.

Just curious what would be able to help his fins regrow, if anything, if it was fin rot, they would be regrowing since the water is very clean and the parameters are as good as it gets.

Preheated 78, everything zero, nitrate 5 and stable
No illness aside from slightly decayed fins
Activities proceed as normal, shrimp healthy and molting.
Platy and Betta very active and eat well.

Tail currently

How big is the tank? Is it just a platy with him?

It's a 10, just a platy, and 6? Cherry shrimp of varied colors and sizes.
They do very well together, never any aggression, and they stay out of each others way when feeding and pretty much all the time.

Ok well you may want to look into some light gentle medications since water changes aren't helping and you're sure that there isn't any agression. I recommend Stressguard (isn't a medication) because it binds to open wounds to disinfect and help heal things faster. It's safe for plants and inverts. Try water changes and Stressguard to see if that makes a difference.

I don't quite like things like stressguard since it's just a light concentration of aloe vera and I haven't seen anything actually saying it's proven to heal fish.

I know it's supposed to help in healing our light wounds, but I'm skeptical about myself and others relying on it so heavily as a fish 'medication'.
Especially when it often boasts things like a proven percentage decrease in stress.

I will look into some sort of light medication for healing wounds, and will further research the use of aloe in fish and other animals.

There is also Paraguard which is a light gentle version of Malachite Green, so it's hard to overdose and does work in curing things. But you have inverts and it isn't safe for them.

I've had to use ich treatment on my inverts, since they can carry the disease as well and were in the infected tanks, I also have cories, so they can only have a half dose of most medications, so this is what I've had to do.
Ich meds mostly contain malachite green as well, so as long as there's nothing else harmful to inverts, I could possibly use a partial dose and see if it heals anything.

Do you think a bath of it for just the betta would help?

I'm not sure about adjusting the dosage of Ich medications, maybe Gypsy13 would know. Instead of medications, there's also the salt baths route.

They've already been fully treated for ich and no longer have it, so I have no need to dose rid ich, I was just mentioning it hasnsome of the same ingredients as paraguard

I think you should look into salt baths because it would be less stressful for every inhabitants and the only one needing treament will be getting treatment.
