Betta's Last Day

I've had this Veil Tail Betta for a year now and he was an adult when I got him. He's had a rough year and was sickly. I don't know if sickly fish is a thing but he got sick a lot. I always did my best to make sure he got often water changes and had a clean filter. His water parameters were always on spot so the fact that he's been so sickly surprises me.
He's had fin rot about 5 times, 2 of which were extremely bad, and being that fin rot comes mainly from bad water I have no clue how he's had it so much being that his water has been stable and right where it needs to be. I've jumped over backwards trying to find out and got nothing.
He's had dropsy once and with a few salt baths he cleared up and a happy Betta again. For about a week an a half now he's been really lethargic and barely swimming. He sits at the bottom of his tank doing nothing. He was still eating good and would greet me but other than that he'd be at the bottom.
His tummy looked a bit bloated as of a few days ago so my guess was constipation. I fasted him and his tummy never got better. I figured maybe bad constipation or an infection/dropsy again. I gave him a salt bath and since then he won't move and he may die any moment.

I don't know how old he is as I bought him as an adult, I've only had him a year. It's possible he might be an older fish. I feel really bad since there is no way I can help him as I don't know what's wrong with him. I have done my best to take care of him. His sickness still baffle me, this right now baffles me. He's also always been the pickiest eat ever. Had to go through a lot of different foods to find something he would eat.

If he goes to that big lake in the sky today I just wanna say he was a great fish and I enjoyed every moment with him.

It's sad losing a fish you worked so hard to recover. You at least tried your best. Sorry.

It really is. He's still alive and he's moved his spot while I was gone. I don't wanna get my hopes up but at least he did something.

Sorry to here this about your Betta, hope he makes it. I have had one for the past year and so far he is still very healthy. I have done my own research on Betta Fish, and found that the Veil Tail is the oldest of all the present different types of Betta Fish. Therefore the Veil Tail is the healthiest of all the other types, but every fish no matter what, can get sick for whatever reasons.

I have no idea why some fish die and others make it in good health. I have had several die in my tank. Water perimeters are good and the tank was cycled long before adding new fish. Do the best I can to acclimate new fish, etc. Not sure about diseases, but if that is the case, then others of the same species from the same place and time that live makes that a puzzle. For now my tank is stable, and everyone else living there are in good health.

Glad to hear you're tank is doing good. I always try to keep that in mind that, "sometimes fish die". Fish are so tricky that they could have underlying issues and we'd never know.
