I have two betta fish up for adoption, and I plan on keeping this betta adoption program going. One of them is my betta Coco. I have a betta breeding program, and all my bettas are currently in it. I don't have room or a want for any extra bettas. Coco can't be in my breeding program because his fins are way too large and he has trouble swimming. There is no way I would breed him. I bought him before I planned on breeding bettas. Coco is turquoise/ royal blue, he is sometimes lighter and striped when he is stressed. He has spots on his fins. He has the markings of a butterfly betta, but he isn't one because he doesn't have translucent fins. The bottom of his head is silver and he has blue and brown eyes. Coco is a special needs betta because of his large fins. He needs a filter with only a soft flow as well as floating plants to lay and hide in to rest. Bettas need at least 3 gallons of water to swim in so a 5 gallon tank would be good. He is pretty active, but does lay down on the sand sometimes, don't worry, he's not sick, just resting. He would do best without another betta to bother him, so I don't think a divided tank would work for him. I feel like he might feel extra threatened since he has trouble swimming.
The second betta up for adoption is Legend. He is a dragon scale (Steel) super delta butterfly male. Like Coco he has spots on his fins and he is a rather pretty fish. Legend is very aggressive so I don't think he would do well in a community tank. Unlike Coco, this boy is perfectly fine. I just can't keep him because I am breeding half moon males, not super delta males. I mistook him for a half moon at the pet store.
Both of these boys deserve amazing homes. Both need at least 3 gallons of water and a filter and heater. I would also recommend live plants in their tank with sand as the substrate. The boys are $10 a piece, both are normally $15 at Petco.
