Bettas & Dropsy

So I was wondering, have a lot of you been having issues with betta fish and dropsy as of late?
Since April 2018, I have lost quite a few bettas to dropsy!

First was Maslow, a King Plakat. Then a random female from PetSmart. I bought a red female and when I got her home, I noticed she had dropsy. I had another female, a Koi, that had dropsy, the day after I bought her. A male Double Tale that had dropsy. And this past week, my Dragon Plakat and another Koi female died from dropsy. The Koi female got so bad that her scales started to come off! I had 3 other fish that had dropsy, but not in the same alarming rate that the bettas have gotten it! Two of them I was able to save, but then about a month later they developed it again and died. Some of these other ones I tried to save, using the same method, but they died so quickly. 7 that I remember.

I am curious how many of the others here have had this same issue?
The bettas were from petco and petsmart.

I had to put down my koi plakat on the first of this month, had him for a year and about 5 months. Dunno if there is a trend though.

A lot of people post about bettas with dropsy and finrot.
I have 3, soon to be 4, bettas. I've never had a betta with dropsy and I've had tons throughout my life. Up until a few months ago, I'd never dealt with dropsy at all (to my memor) and I've kept fish for over 15 years.

I think it depends on the care they get from the store and the breeder as well as their genetics. They didn't have all these different fin and tail variations nor colors/patterns available when I was growing up and it seems to me that all this selective breeding has caused a lot of health problems, but maybe I've just always been lucky.

I’ve kept fish probably 17 years and up until this past year only saw dropsy one time. Now it’s like a daily occurrence. I just got a new betta to replace one who died from dropsy and he’s like a limp noodle. He already seems to have nipped at his fins. I’m going to try him in a smaller tank and see if that works, but in 17 years I’ve never had so many issues with bettas!

I've lost maybe 2-3 Bettas to dropsy out of the 12(?)ish I've had, and I think it depends on what you feed them, the variety, and the water conditions. I've noticed that all tied into it.

Also, on a side note, I've noticed that Bettas can live longer than 2 years? I guess I had a misconception because I always believed they wouldn't. So is it common for Bettas to live that long?
