Bettas And Ottos?

Is it ok to have ottos and a female betta together in a HEAVILY planted 10 gallon? What is the best temp. for that?

(I know it is debatable, and I know bettas shouldn't go with other fish in a 10 gallon. I want to try it)

Otos need cooler water than bettas, so I wouldn't keep them together.

Bettas are fine with other tank mates(no fin nippers tho) they're generally only species aggressive or aggressive towards other flashy fish. That being said, they need different water parameters to thrive tho.

Is there any peaceful small species that could go with a betta, even if it is risky? I know it's not ideal, but could I keep the temp at 77?

Personally, I would add in just one or two nerite snails. I wouldn't add any fish with the betta in a 10 gallon. I know that you want to try it, but when it's risky, then it's best not to try it.

77F is too cool for bettas, in my opinion.

Ok, I might do RCS though, is there any chance of them surviving in there?

Thank you, by the way

Well, I've always kept guppies and bettas together. Males are too slow to do anything to the guppies and it keeps their colors vibrant. And it helps with population control. While females are faster, they typically aren't near as aggressive. But again it's a risk. As far as temperature, you can, but 79-80 would be better for the betta and 75 or a little less would be better for the catfish. Splitting the difference makes everything sad.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with guppies thank you though!

If you have lots of plants in there for them to hide in, then there's a bigger chance for them to survive. Amano shrimp would be a better choice though.

Cherry shrimp are a little small and ideal food for a carnivorous fish. Ghost shrimp are a cheaper alternative to test those waters.

I’ve heard horror stories of amanos being found halfway across the room from the tank :yuck:

How do you tell Ghost shrimp from whisker shrimp? Do Ghost shrimp jump out of the tank? If I’m bein* completely honest, they kinda freak me out lol
