Bettas And Ich Treatment

Hello everyone! My betta currently has ich and I'm using the heat method. I have the tank heated to 86 degrees and I'm doing water changes every other day to suck up the ich spores. I will do this for 2 weeks.
However I know that warmer water doesn't hold oxygen as well, but does this matter with bettas? The only other inhabitant in the tank is a nerite snail. I have my filter running with no sponge that would buffer the flow currently, but My betta is struggling to swim around. Can I cover the filter and the tank inhabitants will be ok? And will my heater be ok as well?

You basically need to get a sponge filter because bettas don't fare well with a lot of flow and as for the snail I don't think you would have to worry much about it

You can use the sponge to cover the filter. People do that all the time. They put sponges over the intake as well, to keep smaller fish (or flowy fins) from getting sucked up into it. Although, in the long run, a sponge filter really is the best way to go.

What size tank do you have? Did the filter come with the tank?

Sorry to hear about your betta having ich, btw. But you're treating it correctly.

I have a fluval spec V (5 gallons). The filter is attached.

The filter is attached, which is why I have it. Otherwise I would've gotten a sponge filter. Usually I just cover the outtake on the filter and add an airstone. But my airstone and pump are being use currently.

That's a really nice tank, but apparently you aren't the only person to have this problem with keeping a betta in it.

Check this link - the author made some minor modifications to the tank to reduce the flow and make the tank safer for a betta.
