Betta Won't Eat Pellets?

Honestly flakes are fine for bettas. Maybe if youre the one feeding, soak the pellets to soften them then feed the pellets first so the betta is hungry and will eat them. then feed the rest of your neons flake food. but if someone else is caring for your tank, just dont worrk about it and feed him flakes.
also if the flakes are making a mess if your tank then you are probably over feeding. so maybe cut back a little?

Thanks, but I am uncertain because I have read a lot that flakes are bad for Betta's due to constipation, and also because they do not have such a good amount of nutrition in them for a Betta. It's why I prefer him to be pellet fed.

Try freeze dried. Just soak it before you feed and there’s many types, e.g bloodworms, daphnia and shrimp etc.
Does it have to be soaked? I can't leave anything that has to be soaked with the person who cares for my fish.

I’m not sure if this is an option but have you already tried flakes specifically for bettas? I’ve never given these to my betta but I’m pretty sure it still has the nutrients that bettas need but your betta would think it’s the same? Maybe? Good luck! Let us know how it works out!

They also make a betta formula of flakes for Bug Bites as well. I know the betta flakes from Omega One have a lot of protein. The problem for bettas with a lot of flakes is a lot of them are made for fish that are primarily herbivores/omnivores, not near as carnivorous as bettas.

Thanks so much, I will try Betta flakes, I did not know they were a think, but if I have to feed flakes, I think they would be better than just regular Tropical Flakes.

What about putting him into his own tank when you are away from home, and make it easy on the Betta and the person feeding your fish

My betta stopped eating his Aqueon Pro pellets after getting Fluval Bug bites( betta formula) and freeze-dried blood worms. I ended up ordering NorthFin Betta Bits on Amazon. They are small pellets and mostly protein. He really likes the NorthFin food. Bloodworms still beat everything else though.

I have a community tank with a Betta male. I feed the community fish in the tank the flake food and I try to feed the Betta the pellets.
At first he would eat the pellets with little problems, but now I can't get him to touch them.
I know flake food it not a good diet for a Betta, so I have started grounding them up into powder so that only the other fish will eat them, and have been persisting with the pellets for him.
I've tried about 3 different types of Betta pellet now, he won't eat any. He will put them in his mouth, then spit them out again and doesn't bother chasing them. The other fish will then usually attempt to eat them (but the pellets are too big for the Neon's mouths.

I won't and can't feed live/frozen food because often someone-else cares for my tank for a long period of time and I have to use a pill pot so they don't over feed my fish. They also would not be able to soak the food in tank water and definitely not in garlic. So I NEED him to eat dry.

I've been persisting with the above method for about 4 days now, so he hasn't eaten that much flaked food, and he is definitely looking for food, but he's still not eating the pellets.
Should I persist with grounding the flakes so he can't eat them, or just give up and feed the flakes. I really hate them because they are messy in my tank, I don't usually have to feed much flake food if it's only for the Neons, so it's not so bad. But it was a problem when I was feeding my Betta flakes also.

My betta refused to eat the pellets. I got some bloodworms and he loves them. Then I tried to mix up the blood worms with the pellets on alternate days. He still refused to eat the pellets and only loves the bloodworms. I tried to mix it up again on alternate days, this time, with daphyna then mysinia, and he will only eat the blood worms. So, that's what makes him happy!! The blood worms are preferable to him. I do keep trying the other food to round out his diet. I don't think he'll ever eat anything else except the bloodworms, but I still offer the other stuff every now and then.

ONE MORE THING-If the food goes uneaten by my betta I remove it from the tank.
