Betta with ich

I think my betta has ich, he has been lethargic for a few days but I just noticed white spots on him today. Today I did a routine water change and added aquarium salt afterwards. He is in a ten gallon tank. I did have two ottocats but I noticed them both dead yesterday and removed them so he is now alone in the tank. I got one of them maybe a week ago so I assumed that he killed them both as he is pretty aggressive, but maybe the one introduced the ich to the tank? I was reading a few different ways to get rid of it, one being to turn the temperature up in the tank to 82°, I had it at 79° so I will slowly turn it up to 82° today and continue to add aquarium salt daily. He has spent most of the day laying on the bottom. I do have 3 live plants in the tank. Is there anything else I should do to help or speed up the process? Should I take the plants out? I am hesitant to add any medicines as I know many of them have negative effects.
Thank you!

That's not good I would say quarantine him, but if he's the only one...
If the salt and heat method seem to be having no effect, you may need to medicate him with something that contains methylene blue or malachite green.

Sorry if this isn't much help!

I'd also like to know, what are your water parameters?

I don't have a testing kit at home but I can get one tomorrow. Would the Tetra EasyStrips 6-in-1 Aquarium Test Strips for Fresh/Salt Water one be okay or would you recommend a different one?

Good plan as knowing your water parameters are vital to a healthy aquarium.

I've heard many positive things about Tetra Easy Strips, but I use the API master test kit and I've had no problems. It can be a bit pricey though, depending on where you live, but it's a good investment.

I reckon either would be fine.
I also wouldn't recommend keeping ottocats with Bettas.

About the plants too...

It depends with the salt killing them. Some are hardier than others. What plants do you have?

I believe 2 echinodorus and 1 anubia

I’ve had success with a combination of salt, heating the tank to 88, and dosing of seachem paraguard. My plants and even shrimp did perfectly fine with paraguard, but I know some species of plants dislike salt.
