Betta with finrot being treated may have flukes help!

Ok so my female Betta I got in late September is very lethargic, losing weight despite being fed, and in treatment for fin rot. She is always holding out one of her gills and I'm not sure if I should treat with my gill fluke meds on top of the Melafix. Other than that she's doing pretty well in her little qt. All advice is needed and here's the video.



Don't know if you can tell but her gill is protruding and I can't tell if it's inflamed that well.

 

I don't use Melafix as it is usually to weak, try using some erithomycin is is a stronger medicine that usually saves more fish. I find that a better solution for fin rot is daily(or more) water changes and lots of good food

 

I have read from a number of posts who have Betta's that melefix is not good for bettas and that there is a specific Betta specific melefix made for Betta. Melefix I have used in the past I have found to be more harmful than helpful as it is very oily and I believe can leave oil residue on the fish gills. numerous other very experienced aquarists call it snake oil. I would try to put some aquarium salt in the tank with him according to instructions on the label as it does help with gill health. Look it up on youtube.

 

It's recommended that you can do the water changes and add carbon to the filter to help remove the melafix.

There is bettafix, which is the lower dose of melafix for bettas, but since it is still melafix, some aquarists don't like using it either.

However, for the person who doesn't want to add medication like that to the tank, there is the aquarium salt and partial water changes that can help.
