Betta with fin damage after ich

My betta is just getting over ich. I used the heat method wit frequent pwc and gravel vacs and it seems to have worked, but he has holes in his fins with one particularly concerning one at the base of the dorsal where it attaches to the body. The edges are turning dark. There are other holes appearing that are getting larger and also have black edges.

Do I need to get him an antibiotic? If so, what kind?

Could you post a pic? That sounds weird.

Usually, we would recommend lots of water changes, as pristine water conditions really help fin conditions. I can't quite picture what you're describing though.

I can't get a good picture. You can only see it when he raises his fins, whch he only does for a second and my camera isn't fast enough to get it.

I think its probably an infection because there was an ich spot there and when it dropped off there was a hole that's been getting larger as the days go by.

If it is a nasty infection, I would like to treat him before it gets worse than it is.

I would prob wait depending on how bad it is. I would try to do daily water changes. use some vita chem and stress guard/coat. if it gets worse you could use maracyn, I'm about to treat a betta for major tail rot with maracyn 2.

Well, he is the only fish in a 10 gallon cycled tank that registers 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate and <5 nitrate. I would be surprised if it's ammonia burn. He had a major infestation of ich, but it was localized to his tail and two patches on his body - I didn't believe it was ich at first because I always assumed it was all over the body. Someone told me that it can be localized to just an area, which I thought was weird but the heat treatment worked. But, now the two large patches where the ich was and the holes on his fin are black/dark. At first I thought they were just scabs, scars or trauma spots. But now I worry that they are infected. This fish is more worry than my dog!

I know that feeling Malcolm was a roller coaster. What water conditioner do you use?

Prime is very good although the problem I only forsee is it can give false ammonia readings don't get me wrong I have it too but am using up the rest of my stress coat and amquel + before I switch. If you can get stress coat maybe using that in conjunction with prime could help I did see very good results with stress coat
