Betta Tank Redo

I was so excited about this that I had to make a thread
So this is my first real attempt at a planted tank. I've had an Anubias and some moss balls in there for a few weeks but now I'm going all out- I was pushed to do it by algae issues but its definitely been in my mind for a long time now. I got some live Water Wisteria, Java Fern, Rosette Sword, and a betta leaf but that's just plastic so it's not as fun. My guy is in a temporary tank while I kick up all the sand in his home trying to do this lol. I'm about to start planting them so I'll update when I'm done!

Oh also this is kinda a "look what I did!" thread but suggestions and advice are definitely always welcome!

Ooh how cuteee I love it! I’m sure your fish will also you should consider a Nerite snail, they’re great little algae eaters and don’t reproduce in fresh water! Neat little guys
Also, what lighting is that? I’m hoping it’ll be strong enough for your plant in the back there! Keep an eye on it, you may need to check into better lighting options there’s cheap alternatives all over the internet! My go to is eBay lol

Its just what came with the tank.. LED's I think, idk the wattage but its REALLY bright. I'll definitely keep an eye on the one in the corner though! I'll keep in mind that I might need to do some rearranging

Maybe even add some type of reflective material or something inside your lid? If that is possible. I would consider a bendable led strip for in the back of the tank! You stick it where you want. Idk if it would be bright enough to sustain plant life, but I’m sure they have strong enough kinds for plants! Shop around if I see something, I’ll let ya know. How big is the tank? Length of top really. When you get a chance...I know you’re heading out for that Nerite!!!

That's a good idea! I'll look into that when I get a chance (and thanks for keeping an eye out). Its kind of a weird shape- a trapezoid with a slight bow front. The back (longest part) is 14 inches but the filter would block half of that space when I put the hood on (you might be able to see what I mean in the pics of the tank but its super foggy so idk.. not sure if I can see it bc I know what I'm looking for or if its actually visible). So more like 7 inches

Yeah I understand the design you speak of. Try that reflective idea! I have a bow front with filter along backside. Makes it difficult for the light to reach certain places. I literally covered tin foil in clear packaging tape then taped to inside of lid. Away from filter and water. Seems to do the trick haha. And I’ll keep my eye out for the flexible led strips. Couldn’t hurt to add a little more in somewhere haha.

Ohhh emmm geeee the nerites look adorabes I have the same exact Nerite in my 12

Hmm I might try that tin foil thing! If it can't be fixed with WD40 or duct tape (or tin foil or tape) don't bother right?! Really tho I'm stealing the tinfoil from the kitchen as we speak lol

Its basically the same thing anyway lol... I just put the lid back on and it definitely looks brighter in that corner.. I still might need to scoot it closer to the middle tho but we'll see - this might be fine!

Good deal, yeah moving it like up in the left corner and pushing the house back ever so slightly?!?! Like it can be the house shade plant you’ll finagle something, surely!

The new tank is the same brand and I thought the light would be just as bright as the other one but apparently not.
I ended up switching things around again based on how they did in the new tank so now the Java Fern is back in the first tank with the anubias, moss balls, and wisteria. One of the wisteria stalks (?) has grown a good 2 inches since I got it so I put that one in the tank with less light and we'll see how that does. I also moved the rosette sword to the new tank since that one grew pretty fast too. I'm thinking since they grew so fast they doesn't need as much light as they were getting so less light won't hurt it'll just slow it down. I have room in the brighter tank so I can always just move them back its nbd. I might have to just get some silk plants for the new one though :/
