Betta Tank Filter Recommendations

So when I first got my 10 gallon set up, I had a sponge filter on it. All was good for a while until the bubbles really started weakening. I would take the sponge filter out, really squeeze it good in old tank water to clean it but it would never really get better. Eventually I just gave up on it and threw my Aquaclear 50 on the tank from my 29. The Betta in the tank doesn't seem to mind the flow, but I would prefer something less powerful on the tank. The airpump on the sponge filter was a Tetra I think. It was like 20 bucks.

Perhaps you guys can give me recommendations for a filter for a 10 gallon. Maybe I was going about the sponge filter wrong. I'm not apposed to a HOB filter either.

Any small size filter should be ok you can add some decorations or live plants to control flow thru your tank ..

 

The Fluval C series HOB are really nice and not very expensive. Aquaclear is a Fluval product (Hagen), and while made by the same guys, out at least designed, the fluval C series is 4 stage instead of having a single media compartment like the Aquaclear.

In other words, the C series is similar to a canister in function and capacity; the aquaclear competes against Tetra and other inexpensive brands.

 

I've had a sponge filter in mine for as long as I can remember. My betta loves it. If you're having to clean the sponge so often you're probably doing something wrong.

 

I wasn't cleaning it that often. It just produced these huge bubbles and eventually would be slow and loose it's strength. I might try a different type of sponge filter

What kind of air pumps do you guys use for them?
