You should get API liquid test kits, as those are the most accurate.

 

A week isn't very long. It can takes weeks to months to properly establish a cycle.

If you're using quick start you need to put the fish in right away and then dose regularly as directed on the bottle.

I prefer Fluval's safe start personally.
