Hi Everyone!

I finally got my Betta Fish. Yay!

Tank: 3-gallon Aqueon rimless cube. It came with a glass top. (dimensions 9.25 inches wide, high and wide)
Heater: Originally bought a 25 watt Hydor Theo but the thermostat was faulty out of the box.
Currently running a Topfin 20 watt preset from Petsmart until I find an alternative or get a temperature controller.
Light: Nicrew 7.5 watt LED
Filter: Small hang on back filter. Using Aqua clear 20 sponges and biomaxx instead of the tiny sponge that came with.
Substrate: UNS Controsoil. This was recommended to me by my local fish store. 2 small bags were needed to get 2- 3 inches for the plants.
Plants: Cryptocoryne Lutea (I think), Anubias Nana Petite, Staurogyne repens, Red Root Floaters
Decorations: A Cichlid rock from Petsmart (I had a coupon) and background from my local fish store
Fertilizer: Seachem Flourish

After 2 weeks, my tank finished cycling. The Crypts in the back of the tank melted, including the roots, but there are new roots growing. Hopefully, in two or three months they will fill the back. My S. repens has grown a bit and is putting out new roots (It keeps floating). The Anubias will be getting superglued to the plastic cave because I don't want the fish tearing up its fins on the rock. Maybe I'll cover the rock in moss or get a few Marimo moss balls. My Red Root floaters are doing alright. I've been having problems keeping them contained during water changes and have been finding they do better with more fertilization.

As far as dosing Flourish, the first week I dosed too much. Last week I dosed 6 drops once. This week I will dose twice. I haven't quite figured out how much fertilizer to use yet. There are a few posted questions in the Seachem support forum about dosing smaller tanks and 6 drops were suggested. I'm not sure how much is needed for just the floating plants

Still tweaking the lighting a bit too. 12 hours was too much. Probably 8-9?

Water changes will be twice a week for now.

My new fish friend seems happy at the moment. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.

Wow, your tank is beautiful! I love the plant selection, and the rimless is a really great look (I just purchased a 5.5 gal rimless for myself ). I saw you mentioned super glue, make sure it is the gel super glue because that is the required one for aquariums. In a planted tank that size, I think 8 hours is a good light time. I keep my tanks at around the same hours too. You could always experiment with more hours of light, but you are risking an algae explosion. I think your plants will do great in this tank too, because of the nutrient rich substrate it looks like. Your betta is also so vibrant and colorful! Very nice choice for the tank. I can’t wait to see the plants grow in and provide more cover.

Thanks! I like how it turned out so far. I'll try 8 hours of light. Yesterday, when I did the water change before bringing him home, I had to scrape some algae off the side of the tank. I'm hoping the plants will fill in eventually. He's been playing in them and built a bubble nest in the Red Root Floaters today.

I did order a tube of the Gorilla Glue gel superglue that should be here in a few days. The superglue I have isn't gel.

Me too! Last time I had a tank set-up, it had fancy Goldfish and plastic plants. I honestly don't think I would keep goldfish again.

Well, I've been learning a lot in the last two months since I started my Betta tank. I've added plants, took plants out, changed some decor, and stressed poor Mr. Nippy Fins out today. He had a plastic cave that I glued some Anubias to but the plants kept coming off. I ended up switching it out for some driftwood. I was planning on getting a little bridge or something. My local fish store had a Stargate but it was way more than I wanted to pay.

My original Crypt Lutea did not do well. The roots melted and it had a really had time recovering. I picked up a new Crypt today. My local fish store says that if this one doesn't make it, it might just be my water. My Red Root floaters had a ton of algae grow on them. I need up having to remove them.

Sir Nippy Fins is a fin biter and picky eater. I had to get him new pellet food because he decided he didn't like it anymore. He likes brine shrimp. bloodworms, and bug bites. Lol

The water needs to clear up a bit and I need to move a few stem plants, but here is the current setup. Sir Nippy Fins is an unhappy fish right now. I maybe should have taken him out of the tank, but I only removed the amount of water I do during a water change. I tried to be as gentle as possible. In the last few weeks I've been changing the water once a week, but I'm thinking of going back to 2 smaller water changes.
