For some time ago I've purchased a couple of betta simorum. It's a short finned wild variety which occurs in Sumatra and Borneo. Although I do find them interesting, I myself have sold all my bettas for some years ago. I just couldn't meet up the space anymore. So, I've sold them to someone else.
But my best friend was searching for some wild betta strains. Overhere it's a bit hard to get your hands on actual wild ones by a regular lfs. Although, Ruinemans (dutch wholesaler of ornamental fish) does have two wild strains from time to time; I just couldn't succeed when I was there last month. But a breeder of several kinds of labyrinth fish who I knew from a 3 week lasting exhibition (we've both participated the exhibition with a large number of tanks with livebearers and labyrinth fish) helped me out. So, I went to his place and took a peek at his tank set ups. He amazingly had lots of labyrinth fish overthere. Spend some hours at his place while having some beers with him and at the end we both were sitting on the floor. Having an amazing time talking about fish in general. I've bought an actual couple of betta simorum and an actual couple of paradise fish (China import) from him for a very decent price. These can grow up to 15 cm (approx. 6 inches). But most of the times they'll end up to a size of 4 inches in most fishtanks.
I do have to admit that I like their appearance a lot. But I won't start keeping them again. Once I've bought them I had to keep them for a while at my place for those fish were also meant as a birthday present for my best friend. So, that gave me the chance to take some pics of them.
My best friend was really excited when he got them... Mission accomplished!
