Betta search "wanted"

Wanted bettas,

Since there seems to be those who browse Aquabid and eBay even more than I do I thought I'd ask anyone looking to look out for a couple.

A few years ago I saw a plakat betta on Aquabid, that was black with red scales in a pattern similar to a grizzle, but not a technical grizzle because neither color is a pastel. I have looked for a betta similar for years now without finding one. I think the pattern looks best on a plakat, but I would buy one like this regardless of fin type. Heck I would buy a veiltail if it had this color pattern.

I am also looking for an outstanding solid red, crowntail pair. There was a nice male posted here the other day but the red had dusting of black that made me pass it up. Might also look closely at an orange or yellow. Figure I need a betta that looks like it is on fire to be the mascot for "fried" bettas.

If someone sends me a auction for the black/red grizzle pattern or a solid hot color crowntail pair and I like it enough to buy, I will send them the best of the spawn the first time I spawn them Just don't start sending me any old betta auction though, that would get old real quick. Solid has to be complete even color and top form.

Heck if anyone else is looking for a particular betta, post in this thread, I'll keep an eye out myself when I search, consider this a "wanted" thread.

Ooh I do it! I already spent all day trying to find junebug's perfect red HM male (no luck...). I love AB hunting.

Oh. Except AB is down. Forgot about that. I'll hunt around my thaI breeders sites...

I think this guy is still available, you'll have to contact him to be 100% sure. Honestly you've kind of got to pick your poison with reds...this is about the best color you'll get unless you're willing to go up into the $100+ range. Personally I like a nice black based more than a cambodian or iridescent.

If it helps in any manner at all, I lost a bid for a Lesher grenadilla wood oboe by 5 bucks today, just at the finish line. Sorry, this is a fish forum, I should not bring woodwinds into it, sadly, rick

Not bad, a little muted, not sure what the best I can expect. I sent message to see what they would want for a pair.

Problem with shopping for bettas online is the photography. They go form the picture so poor you have no idea what you are looking at, to the one so photoshopped into perfection you are bidding on a fantasy.

Most are taken with flash, which makes the fish look totally different than real life, looking usually better, but sometimes (like in the case of Shimmergloom) actually worse. Most often you are just left unsure if the picture is a little more or less vivid than actual fish.

When I find myself posting auctions, I will be hard pressed to decide to take flash or flashless photography. Flashless is more accurate, but it doesn't give that (false) extra brightness that people are used to seeing.

Not quite a "grizzle" but is this about the colors you were looking for?

Edit:

That's the best solid CT on ebay right now His anal is too long but he's okay otherwise. Decent color.

Yeah, I saw him, he is nice! But reds with iridescence are penalized pretty heavily so I skipped him.

Yeah I know. Form on the other solid red is not as good though. He's the better of the two on there, though admittedly not by much

Looking at this guy's other picture, he's got a bit of a spoon head too :/ Oh well.

I love this one.. although he's nothing like what you asked for. I don't have any clue about fish shows.. and don't intend to breed bettas.. so this guy is just one of those OMG, I want!!!!

Just for reference, is this the pattern you're talking about?

This girl is okay looking, more orange than red though.

Also not quite, all I'm finding are females xD

This is pretty close, I would consider a pair of these. The ones I saw before, the red and black scales were very random where this betta has strong pattern and the body is almost a solid black with some red bleeding through.

I contacted the one on Facebook and they have a pair for $64, I'm awaiting pictures of the pair they have available, see what they come up with.

Ah the female offered with the red CT wasn't so exciting, and I wasn't thrilled enough with him to buy him separately. And the hunt continues. Wouldn't think it would be that hard to find a solid color betta.

Good solids are really hard to find :/ They tend to have iridescent spots on the caudal or marbling on the body or head.

I have yet to find a solid red. Blues are easier.

I saw some nice solid orange HMs recently but I don't get real excited about orange. I wouldn't mind yellow, but nice yellow is even more elusive than red.

Super Red HM Male Nice
Of course, I have very little idea what is a quality betta and what isn't, so let me know what you think about this one

This female has the reverse, with red body and black bleeding through. Interesting combo

wow, solid yellow HMPK

Red betta

Yellow betta

The first one ended before I could see it, but the other two are patterned bettas and both Junebug and I are searching for solids. Bettas with one color, particularly red over the entire body and fins.

Here'in lies the difficulty, most of these and others online have iridescence, pastels, or blacks bleeding through from underneath or dusted over solid color. It would be very difficult to breed this out. The yellow one is actually fairly nice, Can't tell how much black is on him, or if it is the photo. But I'm not looking for a solid PK right now.

Would you be interested in a Solid white one?

I will have solid platinum white crowntails as soon as I breed Ares and Athena's descendants. It is recessive to the butterfly so it doesn't show up in the first generation, but 25% of the next should be solid platinums. So I'm not looking for any more white.

He is certainly some character, never seen the like. You know when the sun has almost completely set and the stars are starting to come out. That's what came to mind when I saw him. Am I seeing this right, am I looking at a 3/4 moon?

Good luck finding a home for him, he should make someone a very nice pet. Just not a betta I would be interested in breeding.

Interestingly, I've gotten to the point where I can look at every betta on aquabid and not find a single one I just have to have. This is probably more of a good thing for me since I can only breed them so fast.

I found your red CT!!!!!!! If you don't like him I'll dig my eyes out with a rusty spoon and then buy him myself. He is PERFECT. But hang on I gotta get to my computer to send the info.

Well they are bought and paid for, the red crowntails, thanks to BB.

Who is that other transhipper? When I said I'd rather not deal with Linda he said he'd be back with me but hasn't come back with any other options. I wondering I might be better of going with Linda rather than someone they aren't used to dealing with.

This seller is in Indonesia, I assume, so I'm not sure if their shipment schedule is in sync with ThaI sellers to package multiple seller's fish together.
