Betta question about nests

I have a older male beta names Tailo, and a female betta name Leyla. They have lived together for some time now, I know alot will caution putting a male and female in the tank together. I have been carful with introducing them and such in the beginning.

The male has always been shy, I got him from an owner that no longer wanted him. He was very sickly and could not swim well, that was over a year ago. He is very healthy and happy, and a very gentle fish. He dosent attack anyone, and often gives room to the other fish (only 1 neon tetra rescue) and a Chinese algea eating fish.) About 4 months ago I got a female betta as well, she came from a petstore. Though I had been looking for awhile, I found one that I liked the personality of, granted you can't tell much about how a fish will be just from looking at it. But with bettas I had at a younger age, ive always had good luck with ones that didn't flare and were generally interested in coming up and checking you out, versus hiding and flaring.

So I took her home, quarantined her ect. Then introduced them via a barrier for a while, they kinda just have a "Hi whatcha doing?" Relationship, they bolth will go up to each other kinda just hang out for a few then go do there own thing.

My question is, he being an older male, if for some reason he does start a bubble nest. And I'm not looking to breed them, will it be ok for me to destroy the nest, or will that cause him alot of stress. I couldnt find any thing related to something like that online.

Thank you kindly for your time.

Destroying the nest is fine. If you don't intend to breed it is likely going to be more stress to him and her in the long run of them trying to coexist.

Hi and Welcome to Fishlore!!!! :) Hope you love it here!

I would just say that you might want to keep a close eye on those two beautiful bettas. They can be unpredictable and turn aggressive rather suddenly.

I am :) they are near my desk, I have a back up tank for if they end up having issues. Though they get along great right now, some times they even sleep within 1 to 2 inches of each other.

the likely reason he's not pestering the female is he's likely too old to breed anymore and has no interest in it.

Maybe he surprises you and me, but I don't think he's going to build a bubble nest, sounds like he's indifferent to females at this point.

Yea he is old, im pretty sure this will be his last year or two with me. Though I've enjoyed watching him heal and grow, and been able to give him room and freedom from the dirty little bowl I got him in years ago.
Better pictures of the two. But again thank you for the response :) im head out for a bit.
