I have a Betta and there's I think three things wrong with him, first is scales sticking out second a wound under his fin third he's bloated. Would a pea help his bloat or is he not worth saving? Help if you can thanks...

Post photos please, helps detemine severity and course of action.
His wound may need a secondary medication.

If he has dropsy he needs antibiotic like kanaplex
Pick up some insulin needles
Get some hydrogen peroxide or methylene blue
Epsom salt unscented
Clove oil
Paper towels
Shallow dish
Helping hand

Put him in an epsom salt bath 1tbsp per gallon
Let stand 15 minutes

Refresh some water

Add a few drops of clove oil, 2-3 mixed in

Wait for him to ease into a slight non reactive state
Have needles prepped

You want to go above his organs but where the swelling is worst

When he is non responsive to your touch pour him in shallow dish on wet paper towels
Have fresh water in small cup available to pour over his gills every so often but not too often or he will not be "asleep"

Have partner hold the needle steady
Insert above organs between raised scales and push just past the broken skin
You should feel it with a slight pressure
Imainge pricking your finger
Pull
You may not see fluid at first should be clear or off white.
Depending on severity keep trying.
If he's not too bad kanaplex and epsom may be enough

Kanaplex is hard on the kidneys when used multiple times, and dropsy is often kidney failure.
Proceed with caution.
Follow the labels listed unless directed by a credible scientific source.

Fast, don't feed for two days
Then feed fiberous and protien diet such as brine shrimp and pea.

Use methylene blue to prevent infections
Hydrogen peroxide has a weaker similar affect
1 cap per gallon peroxide
1 drop per gallon for meth blue
Use either or

Epsom is topical and used to stablize the release of fluids between cells and their outer walls.
It is also used as a laxitive by adding it to food and mixing before feeding

The bloating you see could be the fluid you want to try to remove with the insulin needles.

You have about 3-5 minutes to remove fluid before your fish starts to feel the ****. Sometimes less.

Anymore questions let me know...

Hi, He's worth getting him comfortable and hopefully back how he was prior to his DX. You'll want to put your betta in a clean empty hospital container/tank. A 5 gallon tank would be great. No filter. Add an air stone instead. Air stone will help with oxygen and aeration. Temp. at 80 to 82. With Dropsy you'll need Kanaplex and Epsom Salt with no additives/ colors added. Follow recommend amount needed on the Kanaplex bottle with 3/4 teaspoon of the Epsom salt per 10g. The Epsom salt will help draw out any fluid in your betta for the swelling and constipation. I'd probably do a 100% water change every 3 days if water parameters permits and re-add both Kanaplex and Epsom salt. Hopefully you'll see an improvement in about 10 days.

Yes I'll be sure to do that tomorrow, especially when it is 2:23 a.m here now.

You might want to even do your water changes every 2 days especially if he starts pooping a lot. Keeping his environment clean and water parameters stable will help him greatly
