Betta Obsessed With Reflection...

HI everyone and merry christmas!

One of my main gifts this year was a fancy new light for my betta’s tank. A Beamswork DA FSPEC, to be exact. The problem is, it’s a wee bit brighter than my room’s lights, so even during the day with all of the lights on, he sees his reflection and flares... constantly. Is there any way I can help him not be so stressed? I have a background, but it seems like he is only obsessed with the reflection in the front of the tank. Thanks in advance!

It’s just during the day for a few hours for my plants. He’s in a planted, heated, filtered 10 gallon

His tank while his plants are growing out. I’m about to get hardscape and make it into a densely planted blackwater tank for him maybe the tanins will help relax him since it will darken everything?

 

Nice! You might try covering the edges of the top with cardboard to focus the light into just a center strip of the tank, but as long as he's not beating himself up on the side of the tank, it's probably not going to be an issue. He'll eventually figure out that the 'other fish' is not a threat and start ignoring the reflection. You could add more floating plants to shade it too.
