Betta NONSTOP flaring! Side effects?

Hi, none of my other bettas have done this, but my new betta, Patriot, will not stop flaring.... I know this means he is stressed, and I did just get him around two weeks ago. Are there side effects or any bad causes that will happen to him if he keeps flaring? I mean, all he does is swim and flare. Poor guy..

Flare or that show off his fins thing? One of mine likes to show off for the girls. Hes been doing it for 2 years now so it can't be too detrimental to his health.

 

Both. It is nonstop! Btw he is my profile picture (I got it the one second he didn’t flare haha).. He is a Dumbo Crowntail.

 

Is it at a particular decoraction or spot in the tank?

Just looked. Wanted to know more if he does it 24/7.... he did it in pet store, and it’s all he does, Just wanted to know if it’s unsafe/unhealthy..

 

Theres varing opinions on that. I don't think you will actually find a study on it so really its anyones guess.

he might just be really energetic
he also might be stressed, although it is good for them to flare a little bit, gives them stimulation and exercise

 

Could be he sees himself in the glass, and just thinks its another male or female and is defending his territory, just a guess though.

 

I had an issue with one of my males flaring a ton at his own reflection. What I did was cover the back and both sides of his thank with black construction paper to reduce his reflection and that helped a lot. It didn't look very appealing to the eye though
