Betta Missing Scales? Infection?

I’m hoping someone on here will be able to help me identify my issue here. My betta seems to be missing scales on his head. Since I got him a few months ago he had some small white patches on his back which seemed to just be his natural coloration but it seems it’s been spreading slowly and then basically overnight it seemed his whole head was white. His behavior is normal and he readily eats. I moved him over to a 5 gal quarantine tank (also completely cycled with heater and filter) and treated for a bacterial infection based on what I thought it was and the recommendation from my LFS. After a full treatment of maracyn 2 it does not appear to be getting any better. I talked to the LFS again and they recommended stopping the Maracyn and try adding some salt. He said since it doesn’t appear any better then its probably not a bacterial infection. I originally thought it might be a fungal infection but its not fuzzy at all and the LFS agreed. We also agreed it can’t be columnaris because he would be dead by now and he came from a community tank where no one else is infected.

Sorry for the long post I’m just stumped on what to do. I appreciate any help in advance.

Here are some photos:
The first is from May and the second is from a week ago, and today it still looks the same

Personally, i would try not adding anything other than clean water for awhile. Most of what i see looks like normal color changing from a marbling gene that a lot of bettas tend to carry. Especially if he is acting fine and eating well.

Thanks for your reply! That’s probably the one thing I haven’t considered. Is there anything I should look for to confirm/deny that its the marbling gene? How much longer do you think I should keep him in quarantine to observe? It’s going on 2 weeks now

I would keep him in at least a week for observation. Usually if a betta is getting sick there will be a noticeable change in behavior and often lack of interest in food.

I know someone with a betta and its apparently lost all its scales. The guy told me it was bacterial. Never head of this until he told me so there's that.

Could of lost some scales overnight and revealed some tissue of the same color even? They should grow back in a few weeks.

Could even be a genetic problem that's progressed?

If you have tried salt and meds and your still at no avail, then I'd just keep him out of your community tank for another 2 weeks so you have an eye on him. Then return him to his main tank. If he dies, then its probably because of genetics and there's nothing you can do :(
