If it gets bigger it might be cancer. My first betta had something similar.

I'd try doing some big water changes every day over the next week. Like 50%.
Keep everything nice and clean in there to see if it heals.

Either a tumor or a bacterial infection. Try clean water changes first, then go for true antibiotics for bacteria as melafix isn't worth much except as a preventative (and sometimes can cause issues with betta because it is an oil that can coat the surface of the water where they might ingest/inhale it).

What sort of antibiotics?

Oh no

Oh no
Something like kanaplex or ethromycin would probably be the easiest ones to get a hold of and have the best chance at working for bacterial disease (depending on what exactly it is).

I dont personally know but someone might come along who does.

If he is perking up from a nice 50% water change then I'd maybe keep up that for the next week and see how he is.

You can get natural things like Indian Almond Leaves and Alder Cones to put in the tank with him.
They both have healing properties with the tannins released and when leaves breakdown.

I have placed an almond leaf in his tank, but tonight wen I got home I noticed another lump.

Also I dont think we can get those meds in new Zealand.

In Australia we don’t have over the counter medication ether.
You have the almond leaf. Rooibos tea bags are another form of antibacterial medication.
I have been watching your thread Shawnstar .
All I can suggest is the tea bags and almond leaf along with multiple water changes.
I am sorry to say but your fish looks to be pineconing . Which is the final state of a problem. Possibly an internal bacterial infection?
image.jpg Rooibos tea is not the same plant as common tea .It has no caffeine.

A link to Rachels channel as she talks about is scientifically proven benefits.

he does look better! is he still eating and acting normal?

did you add the salt directly to your tank? or did you give him salt baths

Hes still eating hasn't stopped actually, and I added dissolved salt to his tank. I think the salt actually does wonders i love using it.

you should never add salt to your main tank, long term exposure to it is actually bad for them and it is impossible to get rid off once put in a set-up tank. please stop with adding it directly and do 10-15 salt baths everyday

How do u do a salt bath?

grac3
  • #18
so you'll need two containers, fill both of them up with tank water (they don't have to be very big, just like regular food containers will work)

then add a few spoons of salt to one container only and mix till completely dissolved

leave your guy inside the salty one for 5-15 minutes, once done, you should put him into the container with no salt in to 'rinse' him for 5 minutes. done!

how is he?
