Betta hiding and not eating

My new rescue betta fish is in a 7 gal heated tank that I used established filter media with. At first he was swimming around happily investigating his surroundings and what not. But I put a little cave in there so he could have some privacy if he wanted and the only problem is ever since I put it in there he has only come out like 4 times and he always hides in there during the day. He hasn’t been eating and the only times I could get him to eat was a few blood worms and that was three days ago and I tested the water it was all good so idk maybe he’s just a shy fish? I’ve had him for a week and a half I’ve only seen him eat 2 times maybe he’s just not a hungry guy???

Definitely could be shy. Who knows what conditions he may have been in before.

Try adding some floating plants at the top or some betta leaves to help block some of the light. Bettas often feel more secure once they are not under a spotlight.

This too. My betta is out constantly except when i have the light on. Which is only 3 hrs a day or so. Then he tends to spy on my from his skull until he sees me bring a food container.

He’s probably just getting used to his surroundings. Mine was like that too, the first few days before he felt comfy enough to explore and come out and give me the “please feed me I’m so hungry” look of deception :D haha

I inherited an older male betta. He was in a 5 gallon tank but he was not doing so well. I bought him a 10 gallon tank. He wont come out of his rock or eat. I use conditioners. I have a Ph test kit but I have complete test kit being delivered today. I need to assess his water completely. So, it I get the water reading and modify them if needed and he still wont come out of his rock or eat, then what do I do. Yes, he has a heater, water temp is good and a filter. I have checked the illness list. He does have symptoms of swim bladder disorder.
