Betta Help! Water Changes

Right now I have my betta in a plastic bowl holding like 1/2 gallon or a little less. He was very happy to get out of walmart tiny bowl. I'm still figuring out what's wrong with my 10 gallon tank. I'm wandering how often to change the water and how much to change if not the whole thing. (Note: there's never any left over food to sit at bottom of bowl and there's no air pump or filter as of now). If I change the whole thing then when I get new bowl water do I need to acclimate him by floating in a bag with old water on top of new water? Thanks!

I the little bowl I would do 50% daily water changes since water quality can go down very quickly. Don't take him out just refill slowly as to not push him around too much.

I am confused about your 10 gallon tank, your say there is something wrong with it. If this is your first time to setup an aquarium, then to start with you need to learn about the Nitrogen Cycle.
Your betta is a tropical fish, so you will need a heater in your 10g, and a thermometer to read the temperature. Bettas don't really need a whole lot, but there are things you need to learn.

Are you trying to figure out water changes on the bowl? Or the 10g?

I'm also a little confused on what you are looking for.

Now I bought him a 2 gallon bowl today with heater and thermometer..do I need to cycle it? I bought aqua safe start so if I do how much do I use? And for the ten gallon someone asked about..I think someone cleaned it out with chemicals and its in the silicone because I had my treated tap water in it and made my goldfish almost die within 30 minutes

Yikes, well if you suspect that the 10 gallon is ruined then I would say get rid of it or sell in on craigslist to someone who can keep a reptile in there.
I'm pretty sure without a filter your bowl will not cycle, so I would just do daily 50% water changes until you are able to get a new tank. Even a 2.5 gallon heated and filtered tank would be better than a bowl. Still, Bettas are pretty tough guys so he will be able to survive in the bowl for a little bit, but he won't thrive... Hope this helps!

I got him a 2 gallon bowl that's heated and I plan to get a air stone. You think I'd still have to do 50 water change daily or 50 once per wk? You think he'll thrive in a 2 gallon unfiltered??

I'm afraid he won't be thriving, when I kept mine in a glass vase at room temp he was very lethargic and lost his color.
Yes you'd still have to do a 50% change once a day on the two gallon if it's not cycled.

What is the next best size because I'd like him to be happy

I think a 5 gal with a heater and filter would be the next thing. You'll need to cycle it too, but once it's established the parameters won't fluctuate as much in a 2 gallon or bowl.
