Betta Has Red On Inside Of Gill?

HI everyone, I’ve had my betta for about a month now and a couple days ago I put in fungal cure because my guppy started to form fuzzy white stuff around his mouth. The guppy has since died unfortunately but about one day after I put in the treatment I noticed red lining around one of my betta’s gills. Just now I saw him flare and I realized the entire inside of his gill is red. IVe even seen pictures of this on google but the link from the picture did not explain what it was, I’m hoping someone here can let me know what’s going on thanks! Did he maybe have a fungal issue and it’s now healing?

I tried my best to take a picture but it was near impossible, it’s mainly around his chin area that the red is noticeable but the whole inside of the lining of the gill is red

Also is it normal for Cory catfish to become lethargic after there’s treatment in the water?

What size tank? What’s the tank temperature? Name of the medication you dosed? Is the tank cycled? Do you do normal water changes and if you do how often and how much? Tank parameters?

Do you mean when something red comes out from behind of the gill plates when he flares? That's his beard. Male bettas have very appearant beards that are dark red when they flare. I'll get a picture of my one of my boys beards.

Edit: Never mind, it's too late to take a picture. Here's another good picture:

It is a 20 gallon tank, temperature is 80, the medication is called fungus cure by API, the tank is cycled, I do about 10% water change weekly, and All the levels seem to be fine (I have test strips that show nitrate, nitrite, ph, gh, and kh)

Maybe! I’m unsure if it’s his beard because I’ve had him for a month and this is something that appeared only a day after I put in fungus cure. Also it’s only the lining of his right gill.

I would just keep an eye on him and if he stops eating or swimming then be worried but for now just leave him be and stop the medication. What do you mean by the Cory’s are lethargic? Also the Cory cats should be in groups of 6+ and they have to be the same type of Cory.

Test strips have been known to be inaccurate most people recommend a liquid test kit specifically the API master freshwater test kit

Okay I'm just going to filter out the medication and keep an eye on him! His behavior is not any different which is good but I just wonder what it could be.

As for the corys, at least 6 of the same type is probably the most ideal. I have 3 and they’re all different kinds (albino, panda, peppered). However they don’t seem unhappy to me (until I put in the medication that is.) They’re all normally very active and the panda and albino are always with each other and the peppered is usually nearby. I do want to add more but this tanks about full. They’ve been not as active and just lying still at the bottom a lot so I wondered if they were affected by the medication, hopefully they will be fine once it’s all filtered out

Thanks for the tip! I’ll be sure to pick one up.
