backstory:
So last week my recently-bought radican sword decided to come out of the substrate and float. I got some plant pots and decided to wait till my next WC to plant it since it would be easier with the water level lowered.
Since then my betta has fallen in love with it and his favorite spot is to sit on the leaf of the plant near the surface.
Previously he would sit on a sunken portion of airline tubing I have around my red root floaters, but he was never completely comfortable there and wouldn’t sit for long or would constantly readjust himself.
I have tried both floating silk and plastic plants, both of which were rejected. I think they just don’t offer the same support or comfort as the radican sword, which has large broad leaves and thick stems.
I have an old betta hammock, and though it’s not the same as a radican sword, I think if I attach silk-plant leaves to make it wider and more supportive, he might like it. The only issue is that the wire that supports the plastic leaf has rusted completely, making it unusable.
Issue:
I do have aquarium sealant I could use to cover the rust, but I’m afraid the rust would leech into the tank. If I removed the wire completely, is there something else I could use in the hammock to allow it to be secure?
