Betta gorging on algae wafers

He gets good food already but he seems to have decided that Top Fin Algae Thins are worth fighting the snails for. I'm not going to feed him for at least a day or two because his belly is still distended from last night's feast.

I don't think the wafers are bad for him, they contain shrimp and not just algae. The protein content is 40%! But he clearly likes it a little too much and it's harder for me to control how much he gets. He will dive right through the snail pile to get at a wafer.

I don't know whether to move him to a tank without snails or to go back to only giving them plain veggies.

What if you dropped the wafers after lights out for the snails?

I dropped these ones just before lights out and I think he did most of his noshing through the night. I've caught my bettas actively hunting shrimp in the middle of the night:-\

Hmm.. I guess then when it's algae wafer day, you would prob need to skip whatever you usually give him. Then continue with veggies the rest of the week for the snails?

I still worry. He looks like a balloon today! I'd laugh if I wasn't so worried...

Try fasting him a couple of days or give some cooked peas. You might just have to skip those wafers entirely or put in a smaller amount. Sorry, never heard of an algae wafer-loving betta before. haha

I wonder if I really need to try peas though. I mean the algae wafers are loaded with plant fibre! Unless I see signs of distress I think I'll just wait it out until he passes something.
