Definitely do that! The bigger you can do, the better!
But im afraid if i get it too big, then she wont use

Where is she keeping it? Because if she has a specific spot for it, a 20 gal could be too large but 10 gallons are not that big so it’ll probably work. If you really don’t think she’d use that an 5 gal would be okay. It’s just nicer to give the betta little room

Depending on the person. Op said she's trying to make sure that she's not viewed as reprimanding her friend for keeping Betta in too small tank. Sorry that all made more sense in my head

Oh okay. I think that makes sense, although 10 gallons isn't very big imo. Its better for water quality and the health of the fish though, so I think its worth it. I don't really think op's friend would view it that way, but like you said it depends on the person.

is ur friend the type to learn from it and fix it? if so u could teach her abt the nitrogen cycle and how to properly care for a betta!!

I agree, but to the ops friend, it's gonna seem huge due to her tiny bowl rn

Not really... i mean... i had tried to get her to care better for her parakeets, but she just ignored it. I mean, it seemed like she was listening, but then she never did anything, so i dont think so...

From my estimate, her tank is 1.7 gallons. I could be wrong, but i dont think by much... i know u guys say to do a 10g, but i think 5g is the max that she would use....

dang!!! i hate it when people do that. i feel like if u get pets u have to care for them to the absolute best of ur ability. i fear that ur friend might just take it as an offense that ur correcting his home, but thats what i would do if i were u

bigger is better obviously, but a 5 should be good

Okay! Thanks for the info. Before getting anything I would make sure that she 100% is going to use it, if she doesn't use it(and you aren't planning to) its going to be a waste of money and time.

Oh wow! That's bigger then I thought! But it still has no filter, heater, cleaning or anything so still a problem. But 1.7 gallons is better then what lots of people keep bettas in!

Yeah, i dont know how they would feel. When i told them about parakeets, they just nodded along and seemed to agree with what i was saying, and in the end never did anything

1 pound of substrate per gallon. Is what Google says But you could probably get by with less. Unless you have live plants or an animal that borrows in sand

right... T-T i 4got

okay... I have a plan! im gonna invite her over (we go to each other's places a lot), then give her a present which i will call an "reunion present" (cause of quarantine) and she will open it at my place, cause she wont be able to wait (ive done this b4, she always opens them immediately). Then i will suggest that we set it up together (like, where everything goes) and she will (hopefully) say yes, and then if she works on it herself, then (hopefully) she wont throw away all her hard work!

what do you guys think? lol

Lol ok!

Any aquascaping suggestions? Maybe below 50 dollars? Or if ur an angel , then below 20(*is really flat broke and only money comes from beggeing her sis*)

Any good deals on silk plants?

here is what i found (links) are these any good? or should i stray away from plastic plants? i also figured i would stick the unused stuff in my goldfish tank, lol.

here is the tank i am considering:
Amazon.com : Tetra ColorFusion Starter aquarium Kit 3 Gallons, Half-Moon Shape, With Bubbler And Color-Changing Light Disc : Aquarium Starter Kits : Pet Supplies

here is the sand:
Amazon.com : Imagitarium Black Aquarium Sand, 5 lbs : Pet Supplies

here are some plants (they seemed like good deals):
Amazon.com: OrgMemory Fish Tank Decorations, Aquarium Décor Plastic Plants, (19pcs, 7.5"-14.5"), Plastic Aquariums Plants: Pet Supplies

Amazon.com: CousDUoBe Aquarium Decorations 21 Pack Lifelike Plastic Decor Fish Tank Plants,Used for Household and Office Aquarium Simulation Plastic Hydroponic Plants: Pet Supplies

Amazon.com : Aquarium Decorations 20 Or 23 Pack Lifelike Plastic Decor Fish Tank Plants, Small to Large (20 Pack) : Pet Supplies

here are some jellyfish thingies, lol:
Amazon.com : Uniclife 6 Pcs Glowing Jellyfish Ornament Decoration for Aquarium Fish Tank : Pet Supplies

any ideas for some stone ish stuff, so that she can set it up herself? (higher chance of her using it if she sets it up personally)

just wondering - would a heater designed for a 28g tank work in a 3g tank? (im pretty sure thats a flat out no, lol, but i just wanted to check)

I'm pretty sure links are allowed if you are helping out. You just can't promote other forums.

You already have 5 pages here so I'm guessing you have most of the things you need, but I'll try to help anyway
(I'm also pretty sure FishGirl115 already mentioned this, but craigslist, ebay, letgo, walmart, or facebook can help you find really good deals ).

Tank ($15) -

Prime ($9) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002568S6/ref=twister_B07W8JHBQP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Airpump ($2-8) - You can get this airpump for $2, but the shipping takes 2 months. Here's one with fast shipping:

Filter ($6) - https://www.amazon.com/Lefunpets-Bi...=5+gallon+sponge+filter&qid=1589330236&sr=8-2

Heater ($10) -

Silk plants (about $5 each) - Petco has really nice cheap silk plants. Here's one:
(Petsmart also has some relatively cheap easy to take care of plants, like moss balls and anubias, or you could ask if anyone has any plants they have for sale, for a decent price here. Walmart also has good plant deals ).

For substrate, the imagitarium one I think you mentioned would work fine.

The final price would be about $70 (maybe more) lol. Your friend is really lucky. Also are you planning on helping her cycle the tank? I didn't go through all the pages, so sorry if you already mentioned it, or if I mentioned something that someone already said.

That tank looks pretty good... but a 5 gallon would be better and not much more money.
You have to be careful with stone and bettas as their fins can get ripped on it.
Certain plastic plants can rip their fins too... silk is better.

Here is a 5.5g tank for about the same price: Top Fin® Essentials Aquarium Starter Kit | fish Starter Kits | PetSmart

and a heater (I have this one in my 3.5g, it works): Top Fin® Betta Tank Heater | fish Heaters | PetSmart

Heres a 3 set of silk plants: Top Fin® Artificial Aquarium Plant Variety Pack | fish Artificial Plants | PetSmart

Total of $70 with your sand, not including shipping. Of course you can add decor and such as you want!

TYSM ABOUT EVERYTHING.

I would, although I'm not too sure since ever since I got my hamster, I research about all animals, especially when I get them as pets. If I were in your position and a friend didn't use that, I would get really mad(srry lol).

i also plan on giving her some of my water conditioner (she doesnt even use that!!! :mad and my testing strips, because i will be getting the fancier kind lol.
thx for all the links!!!!

atm im not going to do anything that is involving personal touching (1 on 1) im only going to do larger company stuff, like amazon, petsmart, petco etc...

wow thats fantastic!!!! the best thing for a cycle is beneficial bacteria so if u have any cycled media u can like instant cycle the tank by putting it in there or wringing it out in the water

In this case, you can take seeded media out of your filter and use it to cycle her tank!

Im sorry!!! But... ummm.... what does seeded media mean?
Media thats already cycled, meaning there is bb in it. THat way, you can seed the new tank to jumpstart the cycling process, if the media has enough bb you may even be able to skip the whole cycling process.
