Hi! Im in a sort of unusual predicament. Or maybe its common... idk. To get straight to the point, i have a friend, and she has a betta fish. Her betta fish is kept in a tiny tank with no decor. So... i was thinking... i could get her betta a new tank as a "present". I am just wondering what would be nessecary.

- i dont know if she has dechlorinator, so im gonna get that
- same as above about testing strips
- her tank already has gravel, but im worried the betta might be able to fit it in his/her mouth, so should i get sand too?
- i am def getting her betta a new tank, what would the measurememnts for a 2.5g or a 5g tank?
- what decorations should i get for the betta?

Bettas need a filter of some sort. And yes most people need heaters, ideal temp is 78-82 degrees.

Sponge filter with an air pump will be good-Make sure it has slow flow

Yes. Bettas need filters. You could get a sponge filter! Then you don't have to replace cartridges and they're cheaper

Yeah sand is great I use it! Ooh yes a lid will be handy and live plants would be better and I think similar if not cheaper than silk, as they will absorb the bad nutrients we don’t like in our tanks

You might want to look through craigslist or FB market for some good used deals

You shouldn't replace cartridges anyways. Agreed, sponge filters are nice and you can usually adjust flow.

You want at least a 2.5 gallon tank but 5 gallons is a better minimum. Tetra test strips work but I think the API test kit is the best, although it is pricey. Gravel should be fine but sand looks nicer, just make sure the gravel isn't too sharp or rough. Decorations anything smooth and something that a fish won't get stuck in would work, for plants silk or live plants are the best. Food wise a good pellet is the most convenient, I would add variety such as frozen bloodworms.

Most of the time you want a lid. Sand works.

Ill go with sand... cause her gravel is rough... also, sadly i cant get any special food, because i cant be constantly asking/surveiling her to give her fish the right amount

Make sure she doesn't overfeed, that seems to be a big problem with bettas.

Depends if it's a crowntail. If it's not, that's REALLY bad fin rot, or reeelly ripped

It looks like it is natural. I think it may be a crowntail betta.

At Petsmart there’s a Topfin 5 gallon aquarium starter kit that usually ahout $30-40. It includes the tank, a lid with a light, a lowflow filter and a net. You’d just need to buy sand, decor, a heater and a testing kit!
