Depends on how long you’ve had it. My bettas never hide unless something is very wrong.

How big is the tank, what’s the temp and other parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite).

Yea. Usually Betta don’t hide all day long. Post how old is the Betta. How long ago did you put him in. What’s the water parameter. Any tank mate?

I've had him for a week and a half and he's been hiding like that for two days now. I changed his water yesterday just to make sure but he's still like that. any advice?

I think mine is just juvenile one and I have a 2 gallon tank

I have two ghost shrimps in the tank. he wasn't always like that. He used to be so energetic when I got him, always swimming around in the tank.

I have a small filter that used to be so quiet and gentle.

ghost shrimp will not scare a Betta. You need to post your tank parameters. What kind of filter, esp the GPH of your filter.

I don't know what a GPH is. but my filter used to be so quiet and gentle flowing. now it's a little bit off. It's kind of noisy sometimes and it's flowing water is creating small bubbles and it wasn't like that before.

the parameters are normal. I have a 2 gallon tank. but I wouldn't be able to know the water temp since I don't have thermometer.

Hello and Welcome Fish owner.

GPH stands for gallon per hour. Its the output flow of filter. In your small two gallon tank, a little strong flow will create trouble for our big flowy finned friend.
So check how fast is water coming out of the filter. It should not create any visible turbulence in the water.

They (extremely rarely) do this if lights ate too strong. Maybe yoir betta does not like lights. Keep them off and see how it does.

Hello and Welcome Fish owner.
GPH is gallon per hour
Thanks. So I went ahead and look for my filter manual and it said 2o GPH. should I get a better one?

20 gph. For a 2 gallon tank. ''bahut na-insafI hai" a.k.a. its injustice.
For other fish it may be normal, but for betta it may be too much.
Power off the filter for a day and see how it goes.
(Do not remove the filter)

No I would not turn it off completely. Either turn it down a bit or diy a plastic bottle diversion. To divert the stream to the wall

Hi. Can you please tell my why you will not turn off the filter.
Don't take me wrong, just curiois and wanted to know your personal opinion.

I'm pretty sure it's because BB needs to have moving water to survive, so if there's no current then some of the bacteria could be lost.

I would try baffling the filter with a diy water bottle baffle, as georgelee1000 said. I would definitely not turn the filter off all the way, because a 2 gallon is a small tank and turning the filter off even for a short period of time could hurt the water parameters (at least in mt experience) Is there anything visibly wrong with him? Has he been exhibiting any other strange behaviors? Sorry if I asked questions others answered, just trying to get some information so I can help you out.

heres my guess, not enough stuff in tank. He might not like the shrimp and be flaring at them stressing him out. Filter is not adjustable, has no pre filter sponge, has no baffle(cut a piece of sponge into a square and stuff one corner under the lid outflow area. Water to cold. Try a atI sponge filter

In spite of never having issues with no filter, I will have to agree with Accents. It will help bacteria to settle better in the filter media.

To reduce flow of filter:
Here is what I did (if there is space above the tank. And you do not wanna make the diy baffle to obstruct/divide the water flow)
My friend had a small pump but as it created much force and pushed betta around I just attached a airline tube to outlet and raised it 2 inches above water level. This reduced flow as needed.
And good thing is, it did not splash any water outside the tank.
