Betta fish fins going clear

My 5 month old Betta fish, Bud, has his fins going clear near the ends. I recently left him in my moms care for a week, and when I got back there was a bunch of algae in his tank and the clear parts of his fins had gotten noticeably bigger. The day I left, I didn't notice the clear part, but looking at pictures it was there then too. I attached two pictures of him that I took yesterday and can attach pictures from before I left if that helps.

He's in a 3.5 gallon tank with a heater, filter, and light. In his tank with him at the moment is a moss ball, a log decoration for him to hide in and swim through, and two fake silk plants. He had a live leafy plant but it wasn't getting nutrients from it's root tabs and died. I think the mossball may have taken the root tab nutrients as it's grown a lot since I got the other plant.

I think he may have fin rot based on how quickly the clear part spread and his fins looking a bit ragged, but it's difficult to tell. I got him stuff to treat fin rot just in case, if he doesn't have it it'll be good to have on hand anyways. Can anyone tell if he has fin rot, or if not, why his fins are going clear like this?

I think you're right. It looks like the begining stages of fin rot. It doesn't look too bad yet and he will probably start to heal on his own with clean water and your usual care. I would keep a close eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse and no secondary fungal or bacterial infections develop. If it gets worse I would treat him with medication. However, if the meds you bought are on the gentler side like Melafix or something similar, it might be better to treat now instead of waiting for it to get bad.

The pic you posted does not look like fin rot to me. Clear on the tips of fins actually suggests new fin growth.

Since he is not flared out, I can not tell if his fins are ragged though. Do you have a current pic of him?

Just in case, do you know your parameters? IF it is fin rot, clean water should be all that's needed for him to heal.

I only have one recent picture of him flared out, he doesn't flare out very much. He doesn't stop and rest much during the day, usually whenever he's awake he's constantly moving, so it's hard to get good pictures of him, especially ones with his fins flared out and showing well.

He looks fine to me in all the pics you posted. If you are worried though, you should check your parameters to make sure no ammonia or nitrite and nitrate is low. Daily partial water changes for a little while will also help heal his fins.

He is beautiful by the way!
