Betta Fin Holes

Hi,

this morning I discovered my Betta fish, El-Moe has two prominent small holes, looking like small perfect shaped fang-like holes in his upper fin part of him. I am not sure if this is fin rot or just typical wear and tear for a betta fish. But he is otherwise acting as usual. I test his water regularly and change is partially every couple of days, shows no ammonia or nitrates. I added a small amount of aquarium salt because I am concerned about infection but otherwise want to know if this is something of a concern or something that may just heal with a certain measure of care?

I've had him since August 2016, and he's been with me through 3 apartment moves, not sure if he's getting literally worn out from age or what. Abit concerned about my betta guy, he's been with me through a lot I hate to see him in this condition..

thanks

Are you able to post any pictures of said holes? I'm sure it's not too serious, and aquarium salt should help (a lot of people here don't seem to be in huge favor of it, but for minor things such as this I think the simpler the treatment, the better). What I'm more concerned about is what could have caused it. Are there any sharp edges in the tank on any of the decor or anything? Is he getting sucked up by a filter intake? Do you have plastic, silk, or live plants?

El-Moe has only artificial plants in his tank. I don't know if I should replace them with silk ones altogether because I don't want this to continue to happen to him and I'm certainly not ready to lose him to something so seemingly superficial. I think the aquarium salt is great additive, and I add it on occasion to his tank irregardless of his condition as I've read it's highly advised that alittle bit is good for them. I know he is tech a fresh water fish however I think some salt isn't going to hurt him.

Thank you

I feel that I should add that he does like to go by the filter and it looks like he wiggles himself under it at times, like especially under the 'current' it creates. He also likes to stick around the heater, but mostly underneath a leaf of one of the artificial plants and tends to stay there most of the time.

I would definitely get silk plants for your tank and replace the plastic ones. He might have gotten caught on one.
