Betta Fin And Tail Issue

Help! My betta fish Tantor has some serious fin and tail issues. At first I thought it was fin rot but now I'm starting to believe he may be biting his fin and tail Tantor has no tank mates on his side however he is in a split 10 gallon with my other betta fish Rigel they cannot see eachother at all but I'm wondering what I can do to help his fin and tail grow back without doing harm to Rigel. note I don't have a hospital tank so I'm kinda boned on that but I'm hoping to get some help as soon as possible.

Do a 50 percent water change. Bad water conditions can cause fin rot, and tail biting. Is your other fish perfectly normal?

Thank you
I do water changes on all my tanks every Wednesday How often should I do the 50% water change?
Yes my other betta Rigel is perfectly fine

Until this clear up I would do a 50% water change every 3 days. Have you ever actually seen him bite his tail? Sometimes find rot can happen fast, and make it appear as though something bit the fishes tail.

I actaully haven't. The only reason why I thought it wasn't fin rot is cause there's no black on the edge of the injuries but I'm honestly not sure what it is. Do you think it may be fin rot?

Possibly. Definitely keep up on a lot of water changes, and keep us posted! Clean water is the best medication!

Yes. Unless his condition progresses just use water conditioner, and fresh water to heal him.

Usually with tail injures there are 3 reasons why they are getting injured
1. Fin rot: I don't think it's fin rot. Fin rot looks like well the fins rotting away this looks like he caught it on something. I would check your parameters just to besure
2. Something in tank: by this I mean something in his tank injured him. Nothing in there looks like it could injure him so by the process of elimination that brings us to our last reason
3. Tail biting: this can happen because the betta is bored or he feels like his fins are dragging him down. If he's bored Shake things up a little! Move some of those rocks around! Add a new decoration (Maybe something he can swim through? Cause my guy loves those!) Feed him a new food! Feed him live food! Maybe switch out the bettas so one is on the other guys side? Get a mirror so he can flare at himself!(only a couple of minutes or he'll stress himself) if he feels his tail is too heavy add more resting places. Get a floating betta log! Get a leaf hammock!

Also instead of doing 50% water changes everyday I would just do 25% everyday. If you want you can do 50% every other day

Sorry I disagree bad water does not cause tail biting boredom and bettas feeling that the tail is too heavy cause tail biting

I did slow the flow in his tank I do believe it was stressing him out. Although he seems to be happy and swimming around I do catch him laying on the bottom of his tank but as soon as he sees me he swims up to the top of the tank to say hI and ofcourse beg for food. I've been thinking about giving some Indian almond leaves a try. What would you recommend? I'm new to the betta game but I just love them and want to keep them happy, healthy, and sucesfully.

Thank u! I'll see how he feels on the other side of the tank forsure I feed them bloodworms but only once a week other then that I feed spectum which he seems to like. I do play with him often I have a hoop he loves to swim through and he also loves following my finger for treats his injuries haven't slowed him down in the playing department one bit that's for certain but I can tell he's a bit sad

It sounds like you do have things covered maybe he thinks now it's just routine? But if you have the fin covered then he could be feeling like his tail is too heavy

Poor guy I hope I can get him back to healthy! Have u ever used Indian almond leaves? I'm considering it although I really don't enjoy the look of tannins in my tanks.

Maybe I'll try em out for a bit? see if it helps. Supposedly it will but I'm just not to sure about brown water:yuck: I have two tanks with driftwood in em I love the wood but the tannins drive me mad.

Me too! Almond Leaves aren’t as bad a driftwood in the tannin department though.
