I was looking for nice fishy moments on u-tube and half the list was really cruel videos of bettas fighting. Is it just me, or is this an absolute disgrace. Of course, half the ensuing links were fighting dogs, etc. Why do people do that? > ??? :'(

grrr!!!! that is frustrating. > You are most certainly not alone in finding it a disgrace. As to the why, my humble opinion is that they are sick flawed individuals who are the products of other fundamentally flawed individuals.

It makes me so annoyed. I hope there is some truth to karmic philosophy and something really bad happens to those people every time they do something like that. I couldn't live with myself doing that sort of things. >

there is a TON of crappy videos on youtube like that.. sadly the sickos in our societies feel the twisted urge to show off their demented minds and they take pride in their cruelty.. if we had their real names, we could wait for them to show up on the news as a future tax burden sitting in jail for murder and/or other violent crimes.

I am almost afraid to look at that site for fear of what I will see. You would think there would be some kind of regulatory body for that site and those like it. Remember a while back it was showing girl fights and they were all over the news?? Sick, sick, sick. I agree, people who do these things go on to further horrors.

Do you know, I am not even sure that if there was a regulatory body, the betta fights would be taken off-line. I think that from fish 'downwards', people relate less and less to suffering.

You can also see male Bettas fighting in the first James Bond movie(Dr. No). He then feeds the loser to the cat.

If you report them to YouTube, they should remove them.  There was one video that was absolutely awful, so I flagged it as inappropriate, but nothing happened, so I contacted them about it.  I quoted how their guidelines do not allow videos that show animal abuse, and putting two bettas together to fight is definitely such.  The video got removed.   Doesn't change that the poor fish were subjected to that, but at least those jerks don't have the "pleasure" of sharing their video with the world.

Yeah I found one on there a while back when I was looking through betta video. A few guys probably around my age tossed like 6 bettas into one little bowl, and you could tell just by their voices that they are total burn-outs.

It's such a shame that people treat such beautiful creatures this way... aside from my fiance, Christen and Kyler are right near the top of my 'important people' list... lol. That's right... they're people Amazing that people differ so much in the treatment of animals.

While I agree that showing Bettas fight I've seen worse and far more sick. There was one video on there I actually watched not the whole thing because it was just gross and absolutely cruel of a few college students betting another student to swallow one whole and very much ALIVE!! > Those college students really have nothing better to do then to do stupid s*** like that. The one that got removed after my complaint had two bettas fighting in the same tiny cup. Then one of the guys swallowed them and threw them back up. Believe if or not, one of the bettas was still alive. They were both then flushed. It was absolutely sick.

How can that even happen? The surviving betta must have been absolutely flushed with stress hormones. That's really awful. He would have had no idea what was happening to him. It makes me so angry. > > > > :-\

Those filth should be locked up in a box and fed dirt for the rest of their pathetic lives. > save them from abusing children or murdering innocent people later on in life once they no longer get a kick out of torturing animals.

That's too bad, you will find stuff like that or mice being fed to piranhas or things like that. Unfortunately things will be taken off more quickly if it is violating copyright or something like that. However a weight of complaints will remove stuff like that ideally.

BTW: on a brighter note I was watching one about this guy--a self confessed redneck--who said he was going to kill a pig with a knife. He was perched on a fence with the pig inside watching him warily. As soon as he got down the pig charged at him, squealing furiously. He hopped back up and re-considered...then tried again and the pig did the same thing. He finally said, 'I think I'm gonna get the .22..."

I posed "Pigs=1, Redneck=0.
