Betta Companion?

HI Everyone,

My daughter has a 5.5 gallon tank with a lone female Betta (see avatar )

I told her Bettas should be kept alone with no other fish but she wanted me to ask if there would be anything that would be safe to put in with her.

Thanks
Jenn

Bettas are solitary fish and usually prefer to be alone. You could try putting a snail in with her. Sometimes they have no problems with snails, other times they try to kill them. Just watch her closely. Mystery snails can be fun

Definitely try a mystery snail or a nerite snail. IMO mystery snails are more fun to watch. They're pretty clever too. Ghost shrimp sometimes work also but they don't always live very long.

In that small of a tank, you're limited. Try some inverts, though. If you're going to try a mystery snail, be prepared for larger and more frequent water changes, and having to drop food in for it. They eat a lot and poop even more.

hmmm..I'll have to look into the Mystery Snail and see if that is something she is willing to take on. She is almost 10 years old so her tank is her responsibilty, i'm just there to "help" her.

Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated.
