Betta Colour Change!! (is It Just His Genes?)

I'm rather positive it's his marble gene as he's active, eating and his parameters are all fine. He's in a 3Gal with a filter and heater as well as a diet of garlic soaked foods and a constant supply of almond leaves. I also change half the water his tank every week with a gravel vac.
But, I'm still a noob to Bettas and would like a second opinion from some more experienced people.

This colour change happened pretty much in one week, he did have a somewhat stressful water change last Thursday that left him breathing heavy in his log for a few minutes (poor Haku ;-; ), which is the only reason I'm a tiny bit worried. But, it started with those tiny noticeable dark speckles moving down his fins, as if the blue was melting away, then within the last few days his eyes got the iridescent ring around it that you see now and his blue pattern moved/minimized greatly. The blue patches are still as vibrant in the light as the bottom shot of him when I got him (original picture was taken in better lighting than the new one of his colour change), just to clarify.

What do you guys think?

(hI'm a day before his eyes changed)

Lovely guy! The only times I've seen a color change in bettas that indicate that something is wrong is when they get suddenly and dramatically pale, which is a response to stress. If his colors are changing slowly and still bright, he's just marbling.

Thank you!! I'm a little biased, but I think he's such a beauty too, especially for a Petco Betta <3. And that's good to know, I'll continue to monitor him of course.

Thank you! I love him dearly. <3
And that's great to know, it's definitely been over a course of a week (possibly two).

I suspect his blue will spread as he settles in. Clear/white to blue/black seems very common in marbled bettas.

Here's my favorite example of a marble gene in action in my halfmoon, Ziggy:
Day 1
After 8ish months

So settle in and enjoy! There's a good chance your boy is just getting started.

Hes a marble! They are so fun to watch change colors! I must admit the eye changing colors is super cool on your boy.
