Betta Colour And Tail Type?

Hi, recently my Betta passed away from I believe old age, he was about 6 years old and I'm also pretty sure he had a tumor which couldn't have helped. As old as he was he fought valiantly to stay alive but we always knew the end was near for him.

An empty tank was quite a depressing sight so I went out and bought what I'm pretty sure was advertised as a half moon dumbo/elephant ear, thought I'm not too sure about the half moon part.

Meet Gatsby,

He's incredibly small and has an awesome personality which is the main reason I picked him, aside from his colour. Which leads me into my question, after doing some research on betta colours I just can't quite tell what colour/s he is. He's mainly white with a red head and red going through his fins and body, he also has a tiny amount of metallic purple running through his fins that you can barely see under the right light. I think he's pastel red? but I'm not too sure.

I also can't tell if he's a DT or if he has a rip in his caudal fin, though he's definitely a dumbo/elephant ear. He has a long way to go since he's very young, about 1/3rd the size of an adult so I'm sure I'll see a lot more colour in the future.

Cheers in advance,
Liam.

Yep I don't think that's a halfmoon but I don't know much about betta types so I couldn't tell you what type he is.

Can u get him to flare and take a pic? It'll help in figuring out his tail type.

I got him to flare but unfortunately couldn't take a pic due to the fact that I had to use a really large mirror (no small ones in the house) and the only way to get him to see himself was to put in in an awkward position, I can say for 100% sure though that hes just a standard dumbo, his tail is the same shape as a half moon but only spans about 120°. The split in his tail is a rip that he had since I got him, any advice for the rip? I'm using stress coat+ and I'm sure his tail will heal in time but any advice is welcome.

My main question was about his colour anyways, since its baffling me.

Cheers.

He's most likely a delta, his coloring is called salamander. He's a pretty boy!

For his caudal, daily water changes(20%) should help speed up the healing process if it is a tear. I'm not sure stress coat is necessary at this point.

Ah yes! I forgot about deltas, he's definitely a delta with a rip. Though I'm not sure about the colour, I can see where you're coming from when you say he's a salamander as he has the three colours, but most salamanders I see described and in pictures have a butterfly pattern and a mainly purple body. It's the closest I've seen to his colours though.

Cheers!

I said salamander based on the colors, forgive me for that, I was tired when I replied. Pattern wise, I'd say a marble.

Sorry if I came off too direct, I had just come back from a long work day and was in a rush. Now that he's settled in he definitely showing a butterfly effect but it isn't very defined, more like a marble. Thanks for the great info! and for jogging my memory on deltas!

Cheers, Liam.
