What is the water volume of the tank? 5.3g Bowfront ; soon to upgrade to a 10g.
How long has the tank been running? It used to house a different betta ; I believe in total it has been running for around six months at least.
Does it have a filter? Yes, internal.
Does it have a heater? Yes.
What is the water temperature? ~78.5°F.
What is the entire stocking of this tank? One betta, two nerite snails.

Maintenance
How often do you change the water? Every week on Friday.
How much of the water do you change? About 50%.
What do you use to treat your water? Seachem Prime usually ; Tetra AquaSafe whenever the store is out of stock (which is what I'm using currently).
Do you vacuum the substrate or just the water? I vacuum substrate and then water afterward.

*Parameters - Very Important
Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? Yes.
What do you use to test the water? API Freshwater Master Test Kit.
What are your parameters? We need to know the exact numbers, not just “fine” or “safe”.

Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 5 ppm
pH: ~7.6

Feeding
How often do you feed your fish? Once daily, in the morning. He fasts on water change day.
How much do you feed your fish? I feed him exactly 3 pellets.
What brand of food do you feed your fish? Omega One Betta Buffet Pellets.
Do you feed frozen or freeze-dried foods? He gets one or two freeze dried blood worms as treats whenever I'm training him to do something.

Illness & Symptoms
How long have you had this fish? About a month ; I got him on October second.
How long ago did you first notice these symptoms? A few days ago.
In a few words, can you explain the symptoms? Body went from all blue with a black head to a mottled blue and black black with some red streaks.
Have you started any treatment for the illness? No, I've got no clue what it is.
Was your fish physically ill or injured upon purchase? No, he's been perfectly fine until now.
How has its behavior and appearance changed, if at all? His behavior is the same - he's very active, eats well and is interested in his surroundings. It's just the color of his body that has changed.

Explain your emergency situation in detail. He suddenly developed slight black coloration on his body with one red patch. I assumed the red was from an injury during a water change, and that the stripes were stress stripes, but neither of the colors have gone away since then; instead, they spread, and more red appeared. He went from very handsome to... Pretty ugly, honestly, so I want to solve the issue asap. He still acts the same, I just hope this isn't some permanent color change, since it happened very suddenly a month later.

Here are some before and after pictures:

I agree. It’s just the marbling gene. He looks fine.

I agree about marbling. I think he is handsome still, you’ll come to learn that a mother will love any shape or form her babies come in. It’ll grow on you.

I kind of assumed it was marbling since I doubt I'm doing anything wrong. I just miss his little black head, since he's turning mostly black. I suppose it's a slight bummer, but this is my favorite fish I've ever had, so I'm sure it will certainly grow on me! I'll just have to wait until his color all comes in and then maybe it'll look less all over the place.
